Found Lowlands in the bring and buy at Handycon for £20, which seemed like a decent price. Funded by the sale of a few other games that we don’t play.

Another game I have had for ages and would really like to get to the table.

Bought a second hand copy of river of gold seemed like a light, thinky and beautiful game.

Played that on BGA with people here. Won, but have no idea how or why!

OT: We went to get some Chinese food for lunch and there was a game store in the same complex. I had been there once before and been unimpressed with their selection, as they seemed to focus more on card games, with just a couple shelves of board games. My wife asked if I thought they would have Courtisans, since she had wanted to get it for me for our anniversary, but had been unable to find it available online. Remembering my previous visit, I doubted it but said we could take a look.

Well, to my surprise they had about five or six copies of it, and it looked like they had doubled the size of the board game selection. So still limited compared to my usual FLGS, but better than before.

So Courtisans is now mine!

“Kept you waiting, huh?”

You did indeed, Snake. Your original delivery estimate was June or July of 2024.

Make sure that you keep the outer box it is delivered in. It may come in useful.

I’m well jealous. I see that picture every time I open BGG but I’ve not been able to justofy the shipping (and we have no wall space)

It’s beautiful

Picked up War of the Ring the card game: Against the Shadow expansion. Looking forward to being able to play this, and after a solo or two to get a grasp of the game, I might be able to convince my wife into playing it co-op. Time will tell.

Well the “Lid Expansion” finally arrived. I even managed to fit everything back into the original box. Minus 1 big plastic tray.

Also: Rabbithole successfully acquired (as Great Sage would say). Instead of FLGS I visited the local comic book store today and they have a whole basement filled with nothing but manga. Oops. Reasons ( → I totally “blame” Netflix always raising their prices all the time and canceling/ruining shows )

We had our local biannual math trade last weekend, and I made of moves!

In:
John Company 2nd ed.
Expeditions & Gears of Corruption
Cooper Island
Vengeance
Ponzi Scheme

Acquire (new ed.)
Bad Company

Worldbreakers
Picture Perfect

Spirits of the Forest
Mamma Mia!

Out:

Cryo
War of the Worlds
Dragon Castle

I kind of regret picking up Vengeance. It was a lowball that panned out, but it’s not my style of game and I’ll probably just end up flipping it. But I’m really happy with the rest of my haul.

The justification for these is that I’m really into Spirit Island at the moment, but we have agreed to play it with another couple.

Wanted other things to scratch the co op itch. Have enjoyed Sky Team on BGA and I think it fills the space when it’s too early for bed, too late to do anything substantial and there is nothing on TV.

I’m well aware I’ve been pretty down recently and buying games has previously been a response to that, so hopefully these (and Cyclades, Orleans, Fast Sloths, Jagged Earth) will become long term loves.

*Apologies, I’ve just seen how shocking that picture is!

Received Quacks of Quedlinburg: the Alchemists expansion from our friends yesterday as a late Christmas gift.

Well, as it turned out, “Try January” did become “Dry January”. Zero boardgames played, and only a few hours spent reading and developing my setting and character for a playthrough of Ironsworn: Starforged for whenever I get to start that properly. At least this year should allow for more gaming time as work-life balance changes are coming.

Games on their way to me currently are Hispania, Escape from Stalingrad Z (the Book Set version) and Five Leagues from the Borderlands.
