Also just want to express my delight that one of the activities you can do for the “earn money” action is “Herding Nerfs”.
Bought the new Renegade edition of Acquire and sold the older 1999 Avalon Hill edition. The latter one is sought after for a good price so I don’t mind selling it. The components are nice and seem very similar to the latter.
Also bought more summoners for Summoner Wars 2
Bought these from Travel Games and also a couple of them from Joe Reese (from the Train Rush podcast)
Also received my copy of Acquire from the post. No unboxing video, but this is easily the go-to edition if you want to buy Acquire. The production is nice and indeed similar to the 1999 Avalon Hill edition, albeit slightly smaller (but that’s a good thing in my book). Unless you want the ultra cheap 3M edition copies on eBay for like £15, that’s also a good option. But board gamers want the glam.
The new Aliens expansion (We’re in the Pipe Five by Five) was available for pre-order, so I grabbed that. More to be a completist than anything else. The games aren’t perfect, but they are still pretty good fun.
I went ahead and ordered Zoo Vadis from Bitewing Games’ site, which appears to be fulfilled by BoardGameTables.com. Shipping was a flat $4, so I was comfortable paying retail to ensure I got a copy rather than waiting for another online retailer.
And speaking of online retailers, Miniature Market was having a sale (just like they do every week) and I saw God of War: the Card Game on sale for $10. It’s a co-op so I can solo it, and it sounds fun, plus I like the game it is based on, so for $10, I am willing to take a chance.
Escape the Dark Sector. Well, just the big box as I already had most of the rest of it. Not bothered about the game mats…
Oathsworn came a month early too! Now… Just to finish Gloomhaven…
I stress-bought a couple of small games:
I can see my collection of small imported games increasing now that I know about Travel Games… Unfortunately they didn’t have any copies of Galaxy Cat Extension left
Bought Cat in the Box again. I sold it back in the day for stupid price.
Someone in the club did a giveaway so I manage to nabbed:
- Sleuth by Sid Sackson
- Carson City the Card Game
- Thrown - a trick taker from Wizkidz
- Sunrise City - doesn’t seem like my thing, but the 3D building on a shared map sounds lovely.
Got my 2nd order from Travel Games: Enemy Anemone, Odd Socks, Ptolemy. The last one is a 2 player trick taker so I’m curious on how they would do it. I thought Catchy! has a great concept but a bit flawed
I also requested Cine Pipoca from the shop. Fingers crossed!!!
Recent arrivals.
- Voidfall: crowdfunding, I am pleasantly surprised at my enjoyment so far. Would not be backing a game like this this year
- Castles of Mad King Ludwig (along with a postcard from friends that arrived this week of Herrenchiemsee one of the eponymous castles): crowdfunding. Tile laying. The campaign for the expansion seems to have sucked for people who only wanted the expansion.
- GWT Sheeps: moving compensation shopping. I’ve been waiting for the cow-less iteration ever since @Captbnut taught me the OG version. I’ve had a look and setup a solo but had to quit after a few turns. Seems like I made the right choice. The sheep are lovely.
- Star Wars Realms: moving compensation shopping. I blame @COMaestro and this household’s love of Star Realms.
I also pre-ordered the expansions for Ark Nova and Cascadia to prevent myself from hunting stuff at SPIEL that I will be buying anyway. Also Fair prices are not always fair.
The things I buy at SPIEL tend to be either a pre-order or crowdfunding pickup (save the postage), or something that will never reach UK retail anyway (the tiny companies in the back halls).
It arrived! Already posted about Nerdzday haul. Additions here are Sequoia and Habitats. I’ve been crazy impressed by Allplay / Boardgametables.com in terms of their operations. As we deal with $30 shipping and $100 for Lords of Vegas or $150 for Cyclades with 18 month production cycles these folks are quietly churning out $20 and $40 games with immaculate art, high end punch board, free custom meeples, $4 shipping, on 6 month cycles. Their games aren’t stunning but they are good so I’ve been snapping up a few.
If I ever get a boardgametable it is now definitely going to be from boardgametables.com as their quality is showing here. These are also the folks reprinting Through the Desert later this month…
@yashima, ha ha Star Wars Realms. Star Whelms. I blame @comaestro too. Let us know how neuseeland is!
I can tell you: it’s great! (We visited for our honeymoon, so another reason to buy this edition. I doubt I’ll ever get to go again. But I would love to.)
Hope to get the game to the table soonish.
We visited in one of our five “welp, this is the last trip before we have kids so let’s make it a big one” trips during our long infertility journey. What a place.
But the game???
It looks a lot like GWT, except that cows = sheep, rails = ships and cowboys/indians = floods (I think, not sure about the latter). Also the player meeples have different skin tones as colors and cowsheep-boy hats in player colors that you can switch around.
The sheep are beautiful.
I “bought” Rankster from La Mame Games by donating money to a charity and then they shipped the game to me. Rikki overlooked our donation for some weeks before he reacted, so that’s what the apology for. I already thought it didn’t work for some reason (e.g. no more copies available) but well the money went to a good cause, so I didn’t care much. But luckily it was just the normal swamped by emails thing.
Played a lot and it is just a fun, easy and quick party game. Enjoyed it a lot with my parents in law.
I bought Trick of the Rails and will attempt to blame @lalunaverde, even though it is my lack of willpower that’s clearly at fault
Good luck and have fun. It’s very opaque
I’m an Onitama completionist but I finally have an expansion that won’t fit in the core box…
Light and Shadow gives you a “ninja mode”, which either one or both players can use. You have fewer pawns, but one ninja, who moves on a hidden board using the same card you just played. If the ninja lands on someone, they’re captured; if someone lands on the ninja, the ninja is captured. You have two lanterns per game which let you ask “is the ninja in this specific row/column”.
Sadly I think I’m a bigger fan of Onitama than anyone else I know.
Love Onitama, haven’t played in a long while, but it was always a good time.We don’t have Light and Shadow, though, only sensei’s Path and Way of the Wind. Never managed to fit the figurine from WotW in the core box, however.
