I usually think of the defining characteristic of social deduction games as not really having enough information to be sure of anything. RossM has been my counterexample.
Thanks @RogerBW and everyone for playing. I did think @KIR2 was the scarlet woman though I may not have expressed it!
That red herring really knocked us. And then I was dead!
Counterpoint. My voting pattern theory on day two. Fitted perfectly. Mainly wrong.
You think this is bad, wait until I’m on team evil.
I remember you being in team evil hence all the distrust.
Well played team evil, thank you @RogerBW for storytelling
Firstly, I’m so sorry @RossM .
I saw there were so many people claiming info powers that I’d have to claim a more difficult power to lie. @COMaestro told me Virgin was spare so I just went for it (although the chef was also spare so I wish I hadn’t been so forthright early on). I was a little nervous since it would make more sense for @Assussanni to seed some chaos and me to lay low, but I had made my bed.
I had my suspicions that @GeeBizzle leapt into my whispers so early because they had info on me. When the rumour broke out about me I was glad I had been so out there. It pretty much nullified my Scarlet Woman power since even if I did make it to the last 5, I’d be a sure goner. I was even worried that @COMaestro might be executed early on by pure happenstance, which would give the power to me for an easy Team Good win! And with multiple other powers backing up the rumours, I was a dead Scarlet Woman walking. So I decided to breed chaos and see what happens.
@RossM saying they would nominate, and then not doing it was a gift sent down from heaven!!! I rode that wave for as long as it was worth. I think @GeeBizzle got caught up in that one somewhere along the line too (although all the accusations were making people suspicious regardless?), so even though I was out the next night, I was fairly confident I had got it down to a reasonable number with just 2 team evil left.
After that everyone knew who I was, or was suspicious enough to presume I might as well be the scarlet woman until proven otherwise. No one was talking to me, or listening to what I had to say. It was frustrating tbh. The people controlling the game were people I hadn’t yet spoken to, and wouldn’t speak to me. So I decided to be play as if I was team good to be more confusing. I think it worked to an extent?
Once dead, I carried on playing as team good for a laugh. I whispered to @Assussanni late on, partly because i was confused by team evil playing it so cool once @COMaestro was safe, and partly because I wanted to take the heat off @COMaestro a little. I had completely forgotten about the nominations tie rule, so good on team evil for holding it together!
At the end it seemed like everything was narrowing in on @Assussanni and @COMaestro , so all I could do is sit back and hope @Assussanni looked more suspicious.
And then came my time to shine in the final night. I really thought no one would nominate anyone. So I had two options: either wait for a nom that is almost at threshold to push it over, or vote early to encourage others to do so too (and be a little more confusing). I was even half tempted to try to get @COMaestro to 3 in the hopes of getting the votes going for someone else to exceed, but glad I didn’t do that! I voted for @Assussanni which could have backfired into everyone thinking they were team good, but it worked out in the end.
All in all, it didn’t work out the way I had initially planned, but in surprising ways my position helped team evil at the points where it mattered. I still felt like I contributed despite everyone being suspicious of me from very early on. It was a very strange experience.
I was a little surprised the @DJCT @Whistle_Pig @Najim circle of trust didn’t decide to keep me alive until 5 players alive in an attempt to use me as a trap. But that would have been a very risky play I suppose.
Well played @Assussanni and @COMaestro . Thanks @RogerBW !
What do you mean I’m drunk, that’s impossible!
It was definitely weird having people actually listen to me, that would never happen in person. And of course I was drunk for it
I stand by myself though, Assussanni was evil! I just didn’t have enough time. I could have waited for the next day, but didn’t think there would be much new information, especially given that I would probably die. And then they would have is wait for the mayor, and then? I figured if I was drunk, we were basically screwed. So I took the 50/50 on an execution.
And now I’m dead, and all the human suffering that plagued my sensitive mind is gone… replaced by a thousand times more ghostly suffering
Did I mention how crowded it is out here? Turns out most people are dead
Well played everyone. Even after not being involved, I hate this game.
@yashima had @COMaestro pegged a while back, whereas I was convinced @GabrielH was the Imp. Obviously I have much to learn.
Has anyone played this without a daily execution? Looking from the outside this time I wonder if roles were discussed and no one was killed then it might be harder for team Evil?
I’m just glad that it looks like everyone is still talking to each other.
Well played, Team Evil!
The rest of you: you should have listened to your bureaucrat!
I really thought you were team evil playing it cool! All the way through I kept thinking “That’s exactly what I would do if I was evil”.
This is true, I truly had no idea for a bit if @pillbox was good or evil. Then he started trying to get me killed. That was a “good” indicator.
I thought it was obvious pillbox was good. the recluse was one of the most assuredly not evil characters in the game that was still alive at that point.
Day one I thought that whole confirmation chain with Washerwoman and Librarian was just too convenient.
But for that to have worked the way it did so early in the game one of the three would have to be the spy. But if GeeBizzle was not on the team of evil then that would mean that Spy and Scarlet Woman were minions. Then Chewy would be the only outsider… and no Baron. I absolutely believed Chewy was the Butler.
The way the confirmation chain went, It was obvious that Librarian and Recluse had to be on the same team. And with all the goings on it would be just too obvious for team evil to band together like that. So if not all three were evil, it could only be Ross. And that was my going theory for a bit.
I am quite impressed that Assussanni managed not to whisper with the rest of team evil until the very end.
I had a theory for a while that GeeBizzle was the Imp sacrificing the Scarlet Woman to get rid of a number of other characters and it did work that way. In that investigator confusion both Ross and Chewy went down. But then it seemed too risky a move. In the latter half of the game I watched the quiet people a lot. Waves at Najim and Assussanni.
I thought Mayor was a pretty excellent character for the Imp to bluff so much so that it made me suspicious of Maestro early on. Mayor is not overly useful, possibly difficult to kill and for townsfolk there is an incentive to keep them around.
Ps later half of the game I had confirmation that Kir was indeed the scarlet woman which made some speculation easier although I was not 100 percent sure I had not been lied to

My thinking was it was all a ploy. When the traveller appeared, the next few kills were so obvious there’s no point in rocking the boat any more, especially since team evil were nowhere near the targets. Giving the power in any other way is really suspicious and wouldn’t serve team evil in any way. If anything, giving it to the same player twice seemed too safe to the point of suspicion.
Plus with larger numbers, any crazy play of the bureaucrat vote could have been balanced out by other players.
Wait until the numbers are lower and trust has been won, and then give the power to someone who would rock the boat in the penultimate day. At the very least that forces some ghosts to use their vote before the final round, but it would more than likely massively swing the vote when it matters.
Nah Pillbox is not that devious. Not at all. Never. In no other game of BotC ever.

At that point I was running around the room laughing my head off and really wanted to share the fun! You were the only one I could talk to ![]()
I would have been terrible if it was an in person game.
I know. Same. Keeping a straight face in some game situations is hard. If I ever get to play this live it will be on my copy of the game and I will be GM. Not easy either but way less important than being the imp cackling like crazy…
Nothing to Apologise for @KIR2. I’m glad we’re in a corner of the internet where I hope we would flag up if anything ever made us uncomfortable.
I ummed and ahhed about yourself after the virgin test, but as soon as you were dead, whenever I posted a theory, you quickly shot it down, and the more we interacted the more I was sure you were evil.
Likewise the slayer test by two people who were probably evil wasn’t a big shock, and I don’t think anyone was convinced by it.
My guess on pillbox being good was down to where we were in the game. I’d convinced myself that we’d only killed one of team evil and that @RogerBW wouldn’t stack the deck further against us by adding another evil player.
The person I really struggled with was @GeeBizzle , I couldn’t quite make up my mind about them, and until I could, I wasn’t happy to point fingers with certainty. (Although I’m happy proposing theories.)
Observations if we run the game again.
Whisper Maps are good, but its really only day one you need to bother with. Again, team evil got their message out. We had our first three way whisper, but I assume in real games, bigger groups can peel off the main. I probably won’t do whisper maps if we have a final concluding game.
Voting patterns.
I really like the voting summary template we’ve used, but it’s a total pain referencing them. In future games, can we make the first post in threads a wiki editable one, where we can link to each voting day to stop me getting blood on the scroll button?
Question
I’m assuming after five games across the two forums, we’ve got a forum Meta. What are the hallmarks of our games?
Number One Meta Rule: Ross never whispers with anyone.
No other observations as I never saw the first three games.
Voting overview at the top seems prudent, too.
Apparently my accusing and then not voting strategy (I was hoping voting patterns would confirm my theories to allow a future confidant nomination but then realised At the end that it was a total confirmation bias) didn’t make me any friends and if anything made me more suspicious so I can’t see anyone adopting that strategy again.
Number Two Meta Rule: Virgins are always nominated.
