Anyone for a Whitehall Mystery?

Thanks. I meant that he could have stopped at 86 in his carriage (having got there via 105) and then used his next movement to go back to 105

Jack has made a normal move.

Investigators move.

So, if he was at 105 he’s very ballsy and hoping we walk past him. He could be in 106, 89, 104 or back at the murder site. We could check all of the surrounding circles from 105 this turn, but if he wasn’t there we’ll lose the trail.

If he wasn’t at 105 and was somewhere in the alley , for example 102 he could now be up at 100, which I don’t believe we can check.

Not sure - tempted with Yellow or Blue to 83-85-103. The other could go to 89-106 to check that path without going too far out of position. Red could go 119-121 to check the far end of that alley. The problem is I don’t think we’ll find a clue this turn.

Yeah, I think we have to abandon the 105 idea and pursue the other options, at least until they are proven false.

I agree with either Yellow or Blue to 83-85-103, as that checks two of the locations he could have been at, and one where he could currently be. The other, I think, should go up to 84-71, as from 85, he could have moved there, and it gets the investigator further north than other options, with the ability to cut to the west on the next move.

And agree Red should go to 119-121.

So, Yellow 83-85-103 and Blue 84-71?

Yep

Yellow to 83-103
Red to 119-121 please

OK, I’m going to take that as definitive for blue too - @COMaestro you have until Captbnut’s search/arrest results are declared to change that.

Searchest/arrests please.

I am good with Blue’s move.

Blue will search 71, 84

and barring an objection from @captbnut, Red can search 134, 121, 119

Happy with that for Red.

Yellow will search 83,103,85 please

Blue search:

  • 71: no clue
  • 84: no clue

Yellow search:

  • 83: no clue
  • 103: no clue
  • 85: no clue

Red search:

  • 134: no clue
  • 121: no clue
  • 119: no clue

@pillbox to move.

Not surprised, but that is annoying.

Jack has made a normal move.

Investigator moves please.

Okay, so if he did go this direction, he had to have gone to 102, as it is the only circle we have not searched, moved to 100 last turn, and will now be one circle away from there, right?

So let’s go with that assumption, because otherwise he was at 105 or 104 and is now merrily running off to the east, thumbing his nose at us.

Here’s what I propose: Yellow moves to 99-101, Blue moves to 82-101, Red moves to 100-118. That should cover everywhere he could move to from 100, unless he backtracked. And in the highly unlikely event he’s at 101, Yellow searches first, finds him, and Blue can arrest.

If he is not in any of these places, we have to assume he’s backtracked and gone east.

I’m happy with that. 82 was my guess for where he is, but that may be one move too many.

Yellow to 99-101
Red to 100-118

Blue to 82-101

No searching was done here!

Belay that! Let’s verify our counts real quick.

His third move was the alley move, which we are theorizing took him to 102. The only place he could go from there that was not searched was 100 for his fourth move, and he just took his fifth move. So the only places he can currently be are 99, 101, and 118, unless he backtracked to 102 or 119. We have investigators bordering each of those three circles.

If this all looks correct, we should attempt to arrest in those three circles. We either win, or confirm he is not up this far, and we can have Red check the 119, 102 circles next turn to rule those out entirely.

What do you think?

Yep, you’re right. I think we go for it. So yellow 99, blue 101, red 118?

Yep, that’s my thinking.

So Blue arrest 101

Yellow arrest 99, red arrest 118 please
