“What’s more round, a Scotch egg or a bagel?”
After a few minutes of discussion “You should ask a mathematician, what is topology good for otherwise?”

I vote for a scotch egg being more round, because it looks circular from any direction.

But the bagel has a round hole in the center, a round whatever that is when you cut it and it is round itself and generally quite round. The question is: does the egg fit in the whole inside the bagel?

Depends on how big is the bagel… and the egg. Which reminds me: quail eggs, they were delicious that way.

We could always get a stronger acid…

A scotch egg is a sphere

A bagel is a torus.

Clearly a scotch egg is both rounder and flatter than a bagel

Wouldn’t a scotch egg be an ellipsoid, like Earth??

I think Earth is an ‘oblate spheroid’? That’s what I always say, anyway. It’s my one thing that makes me sound clever. Don’t take it from me.

Whereas an egg, like a rugby ball, is more prolate, at least at the pointy end.

So I searched this and ended up here

A smash B (for spaces with a specified base point) is A x B / (A x {pt} U {pt} x B). You take the direct product than any possible choice for base point you squish down to a point. It’s used all the time in homotopy theory.

I’m out

Now I want an egg like a rugby ball.

This isn’t so much heard as misheard by my dictation software, which interpreted my comment of ‘liver cells containing lipofuscin’ as ‘liver cells containing leper’s foreskin’.

Ostrich eggs are the closest. I heard somewhere the are the biggest cell in the world, but I could be wrong.
