2025 Board Game Challenge!

Yes, from what I’ve heard, there’s a real risk of that!

1.) Ah still not done but only a few left I think. I need to get my butt off the seat and put these games up on eBay/Facebook

2.) No. :frowning: I still have 4 games left in my shame pile. Will try to get those done by April

The Automatic Apothecary is good fun. Haven’t quite worked out the best lines of play for Qvinpain yet, but feels like it will be a force to be reckoned with once I get there.

Monthly Mini Challenge
March: Play a least 4 games that require a decision regarding whether they stay or go off to the flea market.

Three of four played; all three stay:

  • I wasn’t expecting to like 20 Strong, but wanted to try it anyway as solo game with nice components, and it’s surprisingly engrossing
  • Valleria is a terrible solo experience, but was rather satisfying with two players
  • Four out of four players said they’d play Tomb Trader again and that it should stay

April’s Mini Challenge: Complete these games so they can go to the flea market or into the PnP components box, as appropriate.

Have an advantageous April of gaming everyone!

March was rather successful! I played 3 unplayed games: Metal Gear Solid the Board Game, Legacy of Yu, and Courtisans!

So with the three in January, zero in February, and now three in March, I am meeting my goal of two unplayed games per month.

No progress on the unplayed games though.

Phew! That was a dang good month of gaming, if I do say so myself. Assisted in no small way by me going to Adepticon in Milwaukee… that was an experience.

But I did manage to get 7 players for a game of TI4 with PoK and I did exceptionally badly. Partially my starting position was awful, but even aside from that I was just never able to figure out a win-condition for the Winnu… I didn’t have enough resources to build a fleet big enough to take Mecatol, which is kind of their “thing,” and I didn’t have nearly enough political clout or action economy to do much of anything. I still love the game, though, and with the [redacted] coming out in a few months, I want to get at least a few more plays of it in!

Battletech continues to be a joy. What a stupid, amazing miniatures game. It’s kinda nice to play something that I’m not really concerned about winning? Because Battletech isn’t about winning. It’s about mechs blowing up, whether mine or yours. As long as big stompy robots are exploding, I’m having fun!

Our co-op group has successfully transitioned to playing Descent, which I am ecstatic about, because I love that game. We’ve only played the first two scenarios so far, but everyone had fun, and the terrain and the models are just absolutely top-tier. Really looking forward to finishing the first campaign so we can start the second. Apparently there was an expansion announced but never released… gah, should’ve bugged some of the people at the Asmodee both about that… ah well.

Other than that, nothing much. I’m hoping to get a few War for Arrakis games in with my buddy soon (we’re trying to finish up our Undaunted 2200 campaign first), and then buckets of Battletech now that I have a job that, hopefully, I can leave at work and won’t exhaust me constantly. We will see!

I’ve almost completely stopped picking up new games. I have a copy of Courtesans that finally arrived for me that I’ll nab today or tomorrow, but I think that’s it for the near future… my copy of Earthborn Rangers is theoretically arriving before the summer, but I’ll be pleasantly surprised if it shows up before August.

Have a great month of gaming, everyone!

Good month for gaming, although not a tonne from ye olde list.

Descent and Battletech are both chugging along nicely, and I have another game of TI4 scheduled for this month, so that’s great! Got the newest Heat expansion, so excited to put it on the table, and Thunder Road continues to be a joy.

Also played a great game of Star Trek Ascendancy, and also managed to get great games of Blackstone Fortress and Cursed City in… it has been almost 6 years since I played BSF, and it’s legit great. Not sure how much replay I will get out of it, but for now, fantasic. Cursed City is… almost as good. Almost.

I have been averaging 3-4 game nights a week… not positive I will keep up that pace, but man, it is nice.

A couple new acquisitions, but since money is tight (and likely to get tighter) I have been reducing the amount of stuff I buy.

The Heat expansion and Zoo Vadis were the last on my list of purchases from the old job. Excited for both!

Hope everyone has an amazing month of gaming!

Nothing new played in April. :frowning:

Been a very rough month, didn’t have much socializing beyond one friend’s birthday, and my wife is still struggling with post concussion syndrome, so we just stick with familiar games. Haven’t had much time to solo things either.

Consolidation rather than progress this month.

Monthly Mini Challenge
April: Complete these games so they can go to the flea market or the PnP components box as appropriate.

Not completed, but progress of a sort with LotR… got sick of repeating Chapter 3 over and over and over so added an easy mode which allowed victory (added a couple of extra special cards to the deck). Hopefully can finish the remaining chapters with the normal rules before the flea market; I’m over it after ten million attempts at the aforementioned chapter.

May Mini Challenge: Play the five games from my 2024 10x10 challenge that got five or more plays. Stretch goal to add the three games that got a couple of plays each.

Have an mirthful May of gaming everyone!
