Excellent progress, although some bumps along the road… such forgetting many of the rules for Gaia Project since learning in January
Keyforge 10x10
No change, not a KeyForge month.
Monthly Mini Challenge
June: For the sixth month of the year, play six games from the shelf of opportunity
A very successful mini challenge, with 28 plays of these previously unplayed games.
Can take or leave Imperial Settlers, but all the others are great, particularly the hideously ugly but highly addictive After the Virus and the stylish, satisfying Knarr.
July Mini Challenge
There are regular gushing posts from the innumerable fans of Final Girl on the Solo Board Gamer group, but it really hasn’t clicked for me. So far (after a grand total of 3 games) it feels completely mechanical and overly reliant on luck. Time to decide once and for all whether I’m missing something or whether it needs to be sent on its way. Plenty of combinations can be achieved with three boxes, so let’s see how many are required to come to a verdict.
Only a few from the list this month. Three games of Battletech at SOBSCON, the Southern Ontario Battletech Society Convention, and that was great, and Descent continues to be my favourite Dungeon Delving co-op. Stylish, clever, exciting, great mission design… just super good.
Played a game of Game of Thrones, and it was really sharp and fun, and so many rounds of The Gang and Dro Polter. My nibling came to visit for the first time in almost a decade and we played a few games together… Just One, Ito, and even Pictomania.
And, as predicted, my games of Battletech this month meant only one game of SW Legion. Ah well.
Oh! We finished our campaign of Blackstone Fortress. Great game by GW standards. High on the randomness and no real sense of progression, but still surprisingly good. And we finally finished the last mission in Stuffed Fables, which again, surprisingly good.
My copy of Earthborn Rangers FINALLY showed up! I think I ordered a copy in 2023!? Whatever, I have it now, and it will get on the table later in July.
HEAT is proving difficult to get back on the table because one of my group regulars played it to death with another game group. Might get Frosthaven on the table after we finish the Descent campaign…
Anyway! Have a great July everyone! Halfway there!
No new games played yet again. So the goal was to play two of my unplayed games in my collection per month.
Stats for the year so far:
Jan - 3/2
Feb - 0/2
Mar - 3/2
Apr - 0/2
May - 0/2
Jun - 0/2
Currently sitting at 50% accomplished since I overperformed in Jan and Mar.
To be fair, I have been doing more video gaming as of late, as it’s a lot easier to pause and set down a controller and then get back into it when interrupted by the kids than a solo board game, plus I don’t have to worry about components getting scattered everywhere if one of them decides to be a little punk.
My birthday is this month, so hoping to meet this month’s goal.
I am up to 10/25 x 1 of solo games I don’t play often enough.
The list is now up to 51st State, Dune Imp: Uprising, Fields of Arle, Nusfjord (tonight!), Pandemic: Iberia(Monday), Petrichor, Red Rising (last week), Revive, Spirit Island, Terraforming Mars (on the actual table!)
10x10 Solos
Finished: Cascadia, Daybreak, A Gentle Rain, Harmonies, Guild of Merchant Explorers, Naturopolis
Current runners-up:
Casinopolis 9/10
Mistborn 7/10
Sprawlopolis 5/10
51st State 3/10
20x5 Multiplayer
This one looks the worst obviously. And yet I did get a few plays in this year:
Daybreak 5/5 (well, duh, it’s more like 30)
Revive 5/5 (yay! all on BGA but yay!)
Bomb Busters 4/5 (all one session, but still)
The Gang 4/5 (this is 4 sessions of many hands each)
Link City 4/5
Clank! Legacy 3/5 (I have only logged 2 but we’re definitely up to game 3, but it is shameful that we didn’t continue)
I will skip all the ones that are less than 3. It’s a shame really that I haven’t even managed 20 different multiplayer games yet this year. But I am happy I get to play Revive.
I completely blame our jobs.
But I am getting to play RPGs again every 2 weeks which is far more regular than our gamenights, even if it is a system I seem to not gel with (Deadlands Classic). And I am a bit optimistic about my job finally moving into smoother waters with the project finally having started the realization phase.
Woo, two finished! I mean, technically I should have 5 finished by this point, but menh. I will take what I can get.
I added in to new hopefuls that maybe I can finish in 6 months.
Played a game of Eclipse 2nd Dawn, which was great, and put Tapestry on the table, which was mediocre. Been playing dozens of games of The Gang, and a bunch of Gravwell.
Got Earthborn Rangers on the table, very promising start. Hopefully will try the new HEAT expansion this month!
I don’t think I picked up anything in July. Being as careful as possible about my finances.
I like the alphabet challenge.
I found that my just play “25x1 solo” really motivates me to get out games I would otherwise maybe ignore. it’s been well worth it. 5 or 10 of a lot of games is quite daunting as a starting point.
Yes, it’s play a game starting with each letter of the alphabet once each. If I start doing this one regularly I may have to get a copy of Xylotar
I think the 20x5 (or similiar) challenges would be much easier if you decided as a group. Otherwise I feel a bit bad about insisting we play the same game lots of times.
my 25x1 is a solo challenge. but even for solo the 10x10 can be too much. the 20x5 is a dynamic challenge that adapts to games played. i would be happy with any 20 games. but it is not happening this year.
