I checked my list for the year. I am not doing so badly. But I also do not own any X games and my only Q is QE which remains unplayed…
The other opens are: I (Innovation against myself doesn’t count) → Imperium:Foo, O → Obsession, U → could be Unsettled, V → maybe Voidfall, Y → a bit thin with Yinsh and Yamatai which are unlikely to hit the table.
I dont own games with every letter on the alphabet. The only thing unplayed is Y - which is You’re Bluffing! But if we consider that mine is German, so the title is Kühhandel and I already played a K
Funny enough I have multiples of Z. Zombicide, Zoo Vadis. I recommend a game of Zombie Dice. It’s quick and painful. (I was going to write painless but that felt wrong)
Yahtzee for an “open source” Y btw
(BGA supplies multiple Z’s and several Qs. maybe I should recruit my friend for a game of Quantum. There are a whole bunch of Ys even two obscure Xs)
PS: BGG taught me that I am obviously unable to read my own gameslist. Because I own an X: Xia… lols
Let’s see…
Ascending Empires
Beyond the Sun
Celestia
Descent Legends of the Dark
Eclipse 2nd Dawn
Flick 'em Up
Game of Thrones 2nd Edition
HEAT
Inis
Jaipur
Kingdomino
L.L.A.M.A.
Monikers
No Thanks!
Omega Protocol (which I own but haven’t played this year… yet…)
Pictomania
Quantum
Red Alert
Star Trek Ascendancy
Twilight Imperium 4th Edition
Under Falling Skies
Vindication (which I no longer own, but I did play it this year!)
War of Whispers
Xia, Legends of a Drift System
Y… I think I legit do not own and haven’t played a game starting with Y…
Zoo Vadis
Two! Only two to go! Gosh that’s simultaneously neat and frustrating!
Sometimes I think “what a shame I sold on my copy of Quantum”. Sometimes I think “but I didn’t actually enjoy playing it, even though the theme is right up my alley”.
i tried it and we didn’t enjoy it all that much despite the theory saying I would enjoy it. i know but it is still the best Q I can do outside of Quacks
Finished Heat with a really lovely set of races that I did pretty well in, and strong starts for both of the new entries.
I am a little surprised that I haven’t gotten Thunder Road back to the table in a few months. I think the expansions scare me a little to put it on the table… ah well, I will get over that soon enough.
Played a couple games of Imperium: Legends, both which felt that they ran very long, and a metric tonne of The Gang and Hot Streak. Great little games.
Also played a bunch of lighter games: Cascadia, Team3, and The Fuzzies, all classics in their own rights.
Gosh Hot Streak is really good.
The Heat Expansion was fine, nothing earth-shattering but a nice iterative improvement and some neat (albeit crowded) maps.
Not a bad month for games, but not a great one. I have been spending the entire month editing my next novel, giving it a final coat of polish.
I thought it was done, my partner… did not. And was very vocal about my many literary shortcomings. Ah well. She did catch a bunch of typos and a handful of phrases I repeat a lot (“a moment” was used too much). Whatever, is done, going live as soon as I finish the last 10 chapters of tweaks.
Played a couple rounds of Tiny Epic Galaxies, one round of Tiny Epic Quest, a few games of Quacks, and one fantastic game of Xia last month. I have a game of Twilight Imperium in a few weeks, and another game of Xia this Sunday! Good start to October.
No new games this month… a handful of little expansions from BGG, but I think that’s it.
I backed the Container and Inis expansions, and Dogs of War, but as Kickstarter I don’t expect them until 2027 or 2028. I still might pick up a copy of Battle for Hoth… I sold a short story for $100, and that would cover the game.
