18XX - where to start?

I’ll be buying a house tomorrow and dealing with the aftermath of that on Friday. So my next availability after today will be Monday.

Are we playing today?

Hello, if one we’re to seek out a decent, available, under three hour operational 18XX what would one choose?

Having played 1889 and 18Ches I had most fun noodling around on the board than manipulating stocks.

Havent played it but check out 18NewEngland. It’s only on preorder though.

Preorder I can live with. It’s not like F2F gaming us happening fir me this year

I based it on this. Made by AAG.

How useful, $105 though!

runs back to 18DO

A preorder of this is another option

What puts me off is the listed time of 3-6 hours. I’m looking for first plays to be in the 4 hour range

I know this isn’t a picture thread but I recently asked my dad to send me pictures that show why I just had to back 18DO. Dortmund is his hometown and this is his basement:

I am thinking some of you might like to see some trains

On topic: 18DO will be my first 18xx game.

18DO does look interesting, I had a choice between that and 1861/1867.

Ultimately went with the latter because fancy trays. Also PnP-ing 1889

That’s quite the impressive set. How long did it take your dad to put it together?

I came across video this totally by accident and just had to post it. This is another way to have a train in you basement…

Probably somewhere between 10 to 15 years. my mom built all the houses… I don’t think many changes have been made since the late 90s.

Flagging up 18MS for consideration here.

Fixed operating rounds, fixed timing on train rusts…

This is much later, but I’ve actually played 1861 now. It was really fun! The mergers are cool, getting 2 track lays on your turn feels generous and the map has plenty to ponder, especially when you have to take mergers in to account. Also not much by way if stock trashing allows people to play quite positively which might be a benefit to earlier plays/some players. I’m now very excited for my copy to arrive and wait a few months before it’s safe to play.

Good to know, I may keep my copy then.

Anyone interested in another asynch game on 18xx.games? I’ve only played 1889 and Chesapeake, but I’ll play whatever people want to play.

@pillbox @lalunaverde @EnterTheWyvern @Name1ess anyone else is welcome as well of course
