Took the family to the farmstead run by the local parks department. Wasn’t prepared to see this on display:

Pictures from my run this morning (I didn’t stop for a breather, honest)

A great improvement over my usual route, which is mostly terraced houses and light industrial estates, including this gem:

Yesterday we went to see some Art in Gloucester cathedral:

There’s also some quite impressive fan vaulting for connoisseurs of perpendicular gothic architecture or certain wizard-related films:

The cathedral also houses the tomb of King Edward II, although the explanatory plaque omits the (probably apocryphal) story of his death

There’s this slippery white crud that keeps falling from the sky, and I really wish it would stop

This picture was actually taken around midnight, but the city lights reflecting off of the sky made it look super bright

I am very jealous right now.

Don’t you live in/near the city that freaks out when there is a bit of the white crud anywhere? Or maybe some ice on the streets?

(Yes, I also want snow. maybe less now that I live on a hill)

Just because schools and some businesses close because a flake of snow falls from the sky doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it!

40,000 people rocked up to parliament today for a peaceful protest.

(For context, I think the normal population of Wellington is about 180,000 or, including the wider region, about 400,000; so this was a very significant event, with lots of people travelling a long way across the country to take part.)

The round building is our Parliament building. It’s known as the Bee Hive, for obvious reasons.

Obviously, it is some kind of kitchen appliance. Not sure what but it seems like there would be a knife inside? Is the NZ parliament much „Et tu, Brute?“

It would make for an amazing episode of “Is It Cake?”

Having been there when it was very quiet, that is an amazing sight

Aren’t all parliaments?

I often watch a daily news show specifically made for kids with my students (its name is Logo and exists for 35 years, it is amazing).

Well the other day we watched it and there was a report about NZ. Apparently there were some Maori politicians protesting against a possible law change regarding land ownership and Maori culture by performing a traditional dance in parliament.

Is this protest also about this law change?

We don’t have kids but I hear from all of our friends with kids that it really is the best.
