What do you collect (other than boardgames)?

You should make maracas.

I picked up an instant camera recently, which is something I’ve avoided for a very, very long time (decades) at the behest of my poor wallet. Things changed recently, however, when Fuji released a camera called the Instax Mini Evo. It’s a proper digital hybrid, which basically means it’s an instax film printer with a god-awful camera attached… but I’ve actually found the camera just a delight to use. You get quite a lot of control over your shots, and get this: the optical zoom is spectacular, both pre- and post-shot. Benefits of a tiny, poorly resolving film format I suppose!

Anyway, true to my experience with Fuji cameras over the last decade (I’m a Canon convert), the Evo is a pleasure to shoot with and is piled high with film effects. The monochrome performance in particular is spectacular.

Posting here because I’ve already got a pile of physical photos I need to deal with now, and this is only going to get worse. Witness the fevered onset of a collection.

[EDIT] A few samples. I need to get an SD micro card so I can transfer these without the weird low-res images imposed by an unexpected bit of gatekeeping on Fuji’s part. Excuse the “student grade” subject matter, testing the waters here.

Can you choose which photos to print, or does it automatically print all of them?

Yeah that was the big feature that got me to finally jump into it. Not only can you choose what (not) to print, but you can reprint, which is huge for a sharing format, in my opinion. You can also use it as a film printer for any other images from a Bluetooth- [AND app-]enabled device (i.e. your phone).

I’ve added Optimus Prime to our small but fancy Lego collection, courtesy of my ever-loving partner. This was intended as a birthday gift but we all got sick and she had nothing prepared for Father’s Day. Lucky me!!

…now to find time to build it. Last week on a whim I happened to buy her some flowers—the Lego Birds of Paradise—and she’s got this week off, so I should probably let her get first dibs!

Well, seems like I’m now a collector of Jim Fitzpatrick stuff. While looking for one of his books, I found he has his own online store, so I was able to get a copy of his '80s portfolio book signed by him (and it came with a couple of signed prints too).

(Sadly, there’s a printing error in this copy - some of the pages are repeated, leaving others missing. So I might keep my eye out for another cheap second-hand copy …)

This joins my other books, Inis, some jigsaws I grabbed cheap off eBay, and the Bombtrack 7" I bought many years ago.

Not that I particularly think of myself as a collector of anything, but in gathering things together for a music workshop tomorrow I realised that I seem to have become a collector of ukuleles almost by default. Stealthy little buggers.

They breed when you’re not looking. Like ethernet cables.

Not sure I’ll be able to convince Tina of that, but it’s worth a try.

Lucid Eye do a few Jim Fitzpatrick collectable models if you want to grow your collection further…

Now, if only there were a good way to incorporate them into a game of Inis …

I hope they are both named Dawn?

I don’t think I ever posted my pin badge collection.

I’ve just finished moving them into a new home:

That’s only about one-third of the space available for badges so plenty of space to expand the collection.

I’ve kind of accidentally ended up with an extensive pin collection. Just buying stuff I like and then realising I have a lot of them … (though some belong to my partner)

I’ve also accidentally started collecting tarot decks, just because they’re pretty. (Again, the Skyrim deck belongs to my partner.)

(Please ignore the unfinished jigsaw.)

Ooh, I keep meaning to get the Ethereal Visions deck. I too collect Tarot, for the art but also cos I wrote two books on divination.

Bizarre to see tarot mainstream on shop shelves when 20 years ago it was much harder to get.

(If you let it get totally out of control you end up looking at Marseille decks from a specific year like this )

I ended up getting it by accident. I was looking for a cheap deck for use when playing a tarot-themed character in D&D (I ended up with the Smith-Waite deck in the pic) and it came up in a search and I couldn’t resist buying it.

I think we are also among the accidental deck collectors:

since @Captbnut posted the link to that card shop we‘ve been trying to keep the shopping cart small :stuck_out_tongue:

Some of this is on me (the Tarot cards).
But the USED casino decks are my partner‘s… a some-time poker obsession is to blame for those. It flares up occasionally…

If any of you are interested in fortune-telling decks that are not Tarot, the “Lenormand” deck (which started as a 1790s German parlor game) has some beautiful versions (like the “Malpertuis Lenormand” here)

And a US design company called “UUSI” have made stunning playing cards:

And especially their tarot deck, which is aaaabsolutely beautiful:

(I own all these. It’s an expensive hobby)
