It’s a slow build. I think they only introduce Edward in ep 9 or 10? And the ending of the whole thing is what brings it all together.
Well, that’s where I am now, so I’ll stick it out through the end (which I was planning on doing anyway).
Watched the first episode of Hit Monkey, pretty good
Eh, if you don’t like it now, you won’t by the end, is my prediction.
But I think it’s great.
It’s not that I don’t like it; it just isn’t reaching the heights for me that it does for others. To give a sense of where my sensibilities lie, my current favorite anime film is Your Name and I recently just finished Ascendance of a Bookworm, The Ancient Magus’ Bride, and Violet Evergarden.
Your name is OK, I haven’t seen the others. My favourite anime series is Mushishi, which seems more in line with your preferences. I still like Cowboy Bebop a lot.
I loved Mushi-shi.
Ooh, yes! Great stuff!
Well. watched the first three episodes of The Wheel of Time this weekend on Prime, with mixed feelings so far.
Loved the first episode, great setting up, and a lot more action into it than I expected. Rosemund Pike is such a great choice for Moraine. Great effects, exceeding my expectations, nearly putting to shame other recent fantasy series (I am looking at you, Geralt).
On the other hand, as the other two episodes went through, my enthusiasm was dwindling. There has been a plethora of changes from the original that I cannot see why they would be made. And don’t get me started with the White Cloaks attire… Movie industry and armour, there is a long history of deception here.
We’ll see how it continues, but so far, I am not very convinced with the young actors playing the main characters, besides Matt, they are all looking a bit stiff and monotone to me… I know it is hard to repeat what was done with the young cast of GOT, but so far, they have been a tad lacking.
Anyway, really happy to see the books brought to life, particularly the trollocs have been way better than I expected. I know the plot will keep things interesting, and having more fantasy on the screen is not something I will ever complain of.
We watched last Friday… couldn’t resist. I agree about Rosamunde Pike. I think Lan is very well cast es well, as is Tom Merrilin. Not quite so sure about the younger ones, though I mostly like them. I’ll give them a few episodes. Rand already succeeded in coming across as whiny so that’s true to form.
As I do not know much about actual armor the Whitecloaks … my gripe in that area is a different one. Wheel of Time is full of bad guys and personally the casting choices here rub me a little wrong. Would it have been so bad to have a white man play one of the “definitely bad guy” roles from the first couple of episodes? Liandrin is a woman and doesn’t count.
Overall, I am quite happy that they tried to cast more diverse than your average fantasy series.
But then what’s up with Layla? Was she in the books? Why did she never say a word? WTF?
I like it, I think some of the casting is great. There’s proper diversity. I think the surprise towards the end of Ep3 works very well, and since there’s different writers and directors for most episodes it could get much better. The trollocs were impressive, felt very close to the book.
There’s SO MUCH POTENTIAL for good stuff with the Aes Sedai politics etc which they haven’t touched at all yet.
For the whitecloaks, yes. That could have been really uncomfortable. Better to show from the very first frame that they’re completely unconnected to any real-world equivalent (even though thematically it’s not a big jump).
It’s been a long time, but I vaguely remember she’s someone Perrin fancied but didn’t end up with. She was still alive when he visited later. That was one big (and so far totally unnecessary?) change from the books.
Oh, so perfectly cast to fit the characters in the books!!
Sorry, letting my dislike of the later books shine.
Oh, we watched the first episode of the live-action Cowboy Bebop this weekend. It was a lot of fun. Definitely captures the soul of the original, even if the story is obviously different. Gotta say, Mustafa Shakir is nailing the role of Jet!
Haven’t watched it yet but one line towards jet is getting a lot of internet rage at the moment.
Will hopefully get some time soon to watch it and wheel of time.
My wife suggested Wheel of Time but I am not so sure about it, I abandoned the series after the third book because I didn’t enjoy it that much. I think I would have enjoyed it way more if I read the series 10-15 years earlier than I did.
Bake Off final tonight!!!
A worthy winner.
Just saw Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and really enjoyed it.
Wheel of Time episode 4 is MUCH better than 1-3.
Finally we get some Aes Sedai politics, how much of a threat the False Dragons are, great acting, and some really nice philosophy about the Wheel with the pacifist leaf lore etc. Great battle sequences too.
And Clare Perkins as a Green Ajah, who I last saw on stage in Emilia in London, and who is a certified acting badass.
I agree, episode 4 has been a big bump up. 2 and 3 were quite meh…
