What are you watching?

I watched this and now my youtube feed is full of pleasing, relaxing beautiful things being made.

Same here! Sometimes the algorithm isn’t terrible.

I’ve also become obsessed with lock picking videos.

As a non-Who fan, I thought the latest series with Whitaker have been far too focused on the companions. The doctor just chucks a comment in once in a while. She just doesn’t seem to have been given much of a character compared to the others. Tennant and Smith in particular were given very strong character traits.

I still have fond memories of Sid and her allies; in particular, her combination of innocence and ruthlessness appealed to me. But as time went on the series’ coherence fell, and the final episode felt like it left us hanging.

Alias:

Ditto, except I dropped it during S2 because it was becoming clear that the answer to everything was ā€œintroduce another layer of conspiracyā€. The eventual fiery plot-collapse of Alias immunised me somewhat against that style, so I was very dubious about Lost when that came along…

I commend to your attention ā€œClickspringā€ on youtube, and this:

Yes that Doctor Who new year’s episode was remarkably lightweight, lacking any sense of threat or emotion for me. I like Jodie’s Doctor and the current/latest companions though, but now looking forward to seeing what the new companion will be like too.

I’ve watched the special now and it was fine. Very much the standard formula for dalek stories now. ā€œThey’re back! (for reasons) And they’re different now! (but not really) Now they’re gone again.ā€

So yeh, whether it was enjoyable is very much dependent on if you like the team, which I do.

That’s the problem with those series. He interwove everything (and then didn’t pay most of it off), so even when there were some brilliant episodes, you can’t watch them out of context.

I got into those for a while, but they tended to make me fall asleep. So instead I fell down a hole of watching a nice Canadian man repairing guitars.

Warning: Watching these videos may leave you with an urge to start fiddling with guitars you own and/or buy another guitar (which I have definitely not just done :unamused:).

Capt. West: [in West’s office] Commander Galloway, why don’t you get yourself a cup of coffee.

Galloway: Thank you, sir, I’m fine.

Capt. West: [iritated because she didn’t understand his intention] Commander, I’d like you to leave the room so we can talk about you behind your back.

We braved Inside Out last night. We nearly needed oxygen after Bing Bong jumped out of the rocket.

It’s beautiful. And so funny. And heartbreaking.

That was a really good movie. You can watch it at a child level, but it hold together at an adult level and is moving.

Yes the first time we saw that bit, we were in tears too!

There is a lot to love about that movie (and one gods-awful scene that’s super regressive and idiotic, but one bad scene doesn’t ruin a movie by a long shot).

I love the idea of the children’s ā€œemotional consoleā€ only having room for one emotion at a time, while the adult one is ā€˜driven’ by one emotion but everyone has a place. I like the way it depicts depression and sadness.

If it weren’t for that stupid, idiotic scene with the father and mother (ā€œWe could run away with the Brazillian helicopter pilotā€¦ā€), it would be one of my favourites. And again, that one stumble doesn’t ruin the film for me, but it does mean that I wouldn’t rank it in my Top 10 animated films (In no particular order: Moana, Up, Summer Wars, The Girl That Leapt Through Time, Ghost In the Shell, Coco, Macross Plus, Kiki’s Delivery Service, My Neighbour Totoro, and Brave). It’s just unfortunate that a film about emotional intelligence and understanding goes lowest-common-denominator with that particular scene.

I’ve got Stephen Fry’s 21st Century Firsts in the background while I’m working. It is truly amazing to see how many of these have made me go ā€˜Was that only 10 years ago? Well f&@k me!’. Its amazing how some things just feel like they’ve been around for ever.

I have been watching Star Trek Discovery (as mentioned above) and am now on Episode 7 and enjoying the heck outta the show. They even did a reasonable time-travel episode! Not great, but time-travel is almost always awful, so ā€œreasonably goodā€ is a big step!

I’m also watching The Orville at the same time (last night I watched 4 episodes after my partner went to bed), and yeah, I get why people like it. I still hate the pilot/helmsman, but the navigator goes a good distance in mellowing him.

And there is more Expanse coming… man, it is a good time to be a sci-fi fan.

What channel is that on?

It was on ITV. You can watch it on catch up

After a week off the grid, I did a bit of binging last night… The girls went early to bed so it was Cobra Kai season 3; so far what I have watched I am loving the point is taking on bullying/harassment to be the source of most problems, generation after generation…
