What are you watching?

Oh my… you need to fix that  Although admittedly, I haven’t seen Firefly in a while but I assume it is still just as good as it was  Weirdly, that was a time when I still watched stuff in German and so some of the quotes from it are in German in my head. “Ihre Hände sind blau!”

re: Star Wars. I thought the sequels were each kinda fun in the theater when I was busy staring at the pretty pictures and then once I started thinking about the story… it all went sideways especially in TLJ.

re: Disney & Firefly. I am also not happy at the thought of Disney taking on Firefly. In general, I am not happy about Disney having bought up all the big pop-culture franchises.

re: Expanse. This series was best in the first ~five books in my opinion (I guess roughly what’s going to be in the current series which I haven’t seen yet). They do a time fast forward at one point and I haven’t read much beyond that–favorite characters age or fade into the background at that point because you can only repeat certain character/relationship arcs so often before they go stale. I’ll eventually read all the books but this was not a good reading year for me.

Well, better than what Joss had planned for her.

I quite enjoyed all the Star Wars sequels and actually, with the distance of time and ignoring Midichlorians, i quite like the prequels too.

This opinion almost feels like trolling, giving thw emotion above!!:rofl:

I have seen about 20 minutes of The Force Awakens and none of the final two. Got too bored with TFA though to bother seeing it through. I did see and quite liked Rogue One but have not bothered with Solo as yet.

This Star Wars convo hits home in many ways. Regarding the newest trilogy, I think if it had not been Star Wars but any other kind of universe, it would have been completely ignored by the big public, besides lightsabers, they always will attract attention (aside note: Kylo Ren’s is the first one that makes a bit of sense with a cross guard, up till now in the series you just needed to run down the lightsaber blade to chop Jedi’s fingers easy, but that is another conversation)

But being Star Wars, first, they completed the Trilogy (and probably it would have been better they didn’t, Force Awakens is the only one I can sort of pass) and they stirred a lot of angst from fans that were very vocal (and social media these days magnifies this to a new huge level).

I very much agree with what has been said about the second and third movies. They lack mettle, they lack good characters arcs. You could say they lack a decent script. Even Jabba laughing had more charisma that any baddie on these movies, and he needs subtitles.

Rogue One, on the other hand, it’s awesome. After watching it on the cinema I felt very inspired about what TLJ could be. But TLJ stayed on the fireworks, without much substance. And then the third one felt so… meh.

I have not seen the Mandalorian, but I only have heard good things about it. I am considering (now that there’s no rugby) to unsubscribe from Sky and swap to Disney Plus for a few months, to then return at the end of summer.

I echo everything people have said about Rogue One. It’s not a perfect movie by any means - but it’s a good movie which I loved very much (I’ma go watch it again…). And it’s one of the freshest takes on Star Wars 'cause it’s genuinely a different genre of film. It’s a war movie! I was shocked by that choice.
No Bothans though. Where were the Bothans???

Nobody got angry at me for my ridiculous rants (which were typed out in a burst of over caffeinated/lack of sleep energy), so I feel quite grateful to everyone. I can’t like the sequels, but I understand why someone would like the sequels.

The Bothan spies stole the plans for the Endor Death Star (retreats to nerd sofa)

But Mon Mothma says ‘many bothans died to get these plans’ in a New Hope - first Deathstar. They certainly weren’t aware of the second one at the time, which they would have been if the bothans found plans for it! Especially since the second one ~did not contain the exhaust port flaw~ and the plans - which are from the bothans - does contain the exhaust port flaw. Also the second one is much larger than the first, which they certainly would have noticed if they fully analyzed the plans (which they did).

Mon Mothma is only in Return of the Jedi.

I think it’s Jan Dodonna who is charge of the rebel fleet at Yavin

I also thought the Bothans died to bring the information that the emperor was personally overseeing the project.

Hold on.

Wow, I’ve misremembered that! I’ve been misremembering that for YEARS.

Edit: I formally withdraw my membership from the star wars fanclub, and will take 40 lashes per timothy zahn book.

(Sorry so late getting back to this, its been a long pandemic)
Reply 1994 is a bit different, but ultimately more like 1997 then 1988.

The hard thing is (it’s seemed to me anyway) a k-drama show is bounce around services quicker. I miss my old subscription service

Specifically on netflix, Boys over Flowers is the one that partly started the international spread of k-dramas. I don’t think it ages the best, but it’s fun, which could be attributed to the totally not the rest things work in real life over the top Jun-pyo character.
Inheritors has a ton of talent, but might not be a good starter.

Hubby n I started watching The a King, it looks good, but haven’t gotten back

I went to look and all the titles that I would recommend and gain into k-dramas aren’t really available on Netflix

Stuff I would recommend, with no regard to stream services. Some are on Viki, free with ads
Fated to love you, I love this one. Guy and a girl end up both roofied and preggers. It’s fun a bit sad. Heart warming (on hulu)

Strong Girl Bong-soon- adorable girl, super strong, just wants to make a video game. Sub plot of Kiss the Girls. It works.

Rooftop Prince, time travel, poisoned queen, prince and his loyal retainers having to figure out wtf is going on. A roof top!

Coffee Prince, classic boy meets androgynous girl, hires “him” and many conflicting love feelings~also might not have aged the best, but it’s cute n fun.

Goblin the Great and Lonely God, so freaking good. A Goblin spirit needs to marry to end his life. Has a hilarious Train to Busan scene.

It’s a complete 180 from 1988 but I just started and am loving is Sweet Home on netflix, it’s gory as heck and really well done.

Thanks! I’ve been struggling a bit since finishing Reply 1988. Not really into the gory things (so unfortunately Mr Sunshine fell at that hurdle despite looking like it would be awesome) but maybe Strong Girl Bong-Soon might be the sort of thing I’m looking for. Thanks again!
