What are you watching?

My other half is Lithuanian (he plays a character from Vilnius, the capital of the country). She definitely things he sounds Scottish. Maybe the Russian bits from the beginning are semi decent. But the rest of the movie, well…he plays himself.

And why shouldn’t he!

Zardoz - wonderfully referred to in Phoenix Nights as “that mad one where he got his c*ck out”.

I’ve never seen it!

I have never seen it, and did not know it existed until maybe 8 years ago when it came up in a geek trivia night we used to attend. The image of Connery in that getup has haunted me ever since.

I haven’t seen it either, the outfit and the Barbarella kind of imagery did put me off as well.

Oh, don’t mistake Zardoz for a good film. But it can be enjoyable. (Like Shark in Venice.)

Darby O’Gill and the Little People should also be in the rotation so you can enjoy the singing. And be haunted by the death coach.

Mandalorian continues to be a source of joy each week. It’s accruing more franchise dangles now so I worry it will lose some of the versatility of narrative moment it’s had but the episodic structure still bodes well. Also it’s just satisfying to the inner child to dwell in the space it creates for a bit.

I can’t recommend My Octopus Teacher on Netflix enough. It’s very well filmed and is a compelling meditation on empathy.

Taco Chronicles on Netflix is a joy and the conceit the taco narrating the episode feels weird and trippy to me in a fun way. It has greatly increased the danger that I will do myself an injury digging a barbecue pit in my back yard.
