What are you watching?

Just back from Dune Part 2. Enjoyed it but it reminds me why I don’t go to the cinema that often.

Cinema etiquette is in the toilet.

Oh, that’s usually the last place I find it.

It might have helped if the reminder not to use your phones or talk during the film wasn’t after half an hour of ads/trailers and then followed by a couple more ads for good measure.

Had one person in my peripheral vision constantly checking his phone. Fortunately he left after about 45 minutes.

There were a couple of phones not on mute. The lady in front of me had muted hers but had notifications set to flash the torch. :man_facepalming:

That would be so annoying

Just rewatched Master and Commander for the nth time. Its such a good film. I don’t understand why none of the other Aubrey/Maturin books were never made into films? So many good stories!

Cmon HBO or whoever. How about a big budget tv series?

I have an idea why… I had lived for 2 or 3 years in the UK when it came out. I remember leaving the cinema not having a clue of what happened, like if I had watched a documentary in Icelandic. (like, oh, look, they are in the Galapagos now?)

That movie needs subtitles. I could only understand Crowe and Bettany, and not all of the time.

We finally saw Dune 2 last night. After rewatching Dune 1 on Sunday.

I enjoyed myself thoroughly. That was good to see one of them at the theater, finally. We missed out for the first one.

As with the first one, one of the things that stands out for me is the sound of this movie. If I could have I would have watched it a 2nd time right then.

I definitely need to reread book 2 and 3 soon. (I never got beyond OG trilogy).

The experience was only marred by the discovery that one of our friends‘ and her sons bikes were stolen while we were watching the movie :frowning:

Interesting - I have no problem understanding any of it. But then I have read the books so maybe that’s it? Or obvs that English is my first language

I don’t rember having trouble understanding what was said. I do remember having a hard time following the plot. Having read the books was probably a hinderance for that, as it is a mashup of at least two of them. I should probably watch it again.

Yeah you have to kind of ignore the plot from the books if you’re familiar with them! But I think it is one of Russell Crowe’s best films.

I’ve been laughing at this since yesterday. Ginger Rogers delivering the last line is perfection.

From “Vivacious Lady” 1938.

So I watched the first episode of the Amazon Fallout Series - and it was not terrible!?

I was pretty hesitant after disliking most of what Bethesda’s done with the franchise, but it was interesting - not too heavy on the lore (but its there and enjoyable) and some interesting characters. It’ll remain to see how the characters and plot develop, but I’m keen to watch more.

And my wife and I are hyped for the Bluey 30 minute special coming up on Sunday!

And I finally watched the end of Our Flag Means Death which is excellent and I was pleased it has a sweet and contained ending given it’s cancellation (no Santa Clarita Diet dilemma here!)

Oh. Oh dear.

I have a friend who has never seen any Doctor Who, and I started watching from the end of Tom Baker but never really saw anything earlier, so we’re going to do the “watch all the essential Old Who episodes” (and maybe also the 1996 tv movie if we’re feeling strong that day).

The problem with this is, depending on which online list you use, “just the good ones” is still something like 200 hours of tv. Um.

My partner really likes a podcast called “The Doctor’s Watcher,” which is two folks: one who watches the old episodes of Doctor Who, and then tries to explain it to the other one.

It’s relatively amusing, far more so than I think sitting through the old episodes would be. Your mileage may vary, obviously. But it’s also nice to listen to while doing other things (as is often the case with good podcasts).

“The Doctor opens the TARDIS door to reveal… a quarry.”

As an opposed to the revival.

The tardis door opens to a quarry in Wales.

As far as this crusty old fan is concerned, the end of Tom Baker was when it stopped being reliably fun (though there were certainly some good episodes later). I’m not going to give you yet another list of the essential ones, but you may find my blog posts from a re-watch a few years ago of interest.

That is incredibly useful, thanks!
