The original plan was that he would have a different outrageous accent for each film, but apparently everyone had so much fun with the “southern” one that they decided to keep it.

There’s a tweet somewhere from Rian Johnson when someone asked if there’d be a random new comedy accent for the sequel, where he says “I’m not gonna lie, we thought about it.”

We started watching Masters of the Air another Band of Brothers like show by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
Band of Brothers is a masterpiece imo. Watched it twice on my own, showed it to my wife and we watched it again with her father when we visited. Also enjoyed the book a lot.
Curious where Masters of the Air will land. The Pacific was good too but somehow not on the same level as Band of Brothers.

I’ve been rewatching Babylon 5 with a vague plan to watch the new animated story at the end of it all. Still in season one, and goodness me I love it dearly despite it’s many flaws. I don’t think there’s any other show that I’ve revisted so often. Yes, it misses and falls flat often but when it hits, it really knocks it out of the park. Wonderful.

I had it in my list of potential reviews for quite a while, and eventually I managed to watch The Last of the Mohicans on Saturday night. It is a movie that I like to watch now and then, as it is one of my favourites historical movies from the 90s.
I had forgotten how important is the landscape and views to set up the movie, along with the amazing score. I admit I wondered why all the siege scenes are filmed at night, and I guess it is to make the cannons and mortars look more impressive, but I am pretty sure most sieges at that time were shooting during the day. If only to avoid missing so many shots in the dark.
I enjoyed Daniel Day Lewis performance (if a bit stiff compared to other roles he has portrayed), and Wes Studi as Magua is so, so good. Also recognising a young Jared Harris among the smallest roles as a British Officer made me have a chuckle.
For years, this movie had my most teary scene in a movie, the end where the English officer, rejected pretender of Cora swaps himself for her to die burn alive and Nathaniel shots him mercifully onwards till the death of Magua but I must admit this time I wasn’t too bad. I guess there are not so many feelings withheld at my age? I guess that is why?
Anyway, I enjoyed the movie for what it is, and I wonder if it will ever need a remake; I’m afraid they will go for hyper realism on the gory sections and murder any historical facts as usual. Luckily Ridley Scott has not meddled around with this so far.

I don’t know, but it’s a cheap way to not have to build things, and to not have to make the things you do build look as good as they’d have to look if you could see them clearly. Maybe it’s as simple as that?
(IIRC, that was a very real reason why so much of Blade Runner is set “at night, in the rain”.)
If they were destroying things in those scenes, they would probably have been able to destroy cheaper versions.

Babylon 5 is a great show indeed. Just read a German article about it yesterday because of the 30 years anniversary.
The effects are pretty bad and some episodes are weird to be polite (the holy grail one comes to mind) but like you said there was some extremely powerful and well done stuff in it. And that was most of it tbh.

We were in the mood for a thriller yesterday, so we watched Mindscape. Very influenced by The Silence of the Lambs, with the same prerogative, where a serial killer, The Artist, assists the police on a new case while in the death row, this time of some kind of copycat.
Interesting enough, with John Malkovich carrying the movie, at some point the movie does make you suspect from everybody. I would recommend, if not a masterpiece, it did definitely entertain us and surprise us at the end.

After some googling, I believe the movie is Mindcage. And it sounds pretty good, I like a good serial killer movie.

Watched some of Netflix’s new show Obliterated. I can’t decide if it’s good or not.
I mean, it’s definitely not good. It’s by the team who made the excellent Cobra Kai, and so Netflix clearly gave them a lot of money for the next idea, but… this is a mess. It’s like they took the 5 minute gags of when Johnny Lawrence is drunk and doing stupid things, and turned it into an 8 hour spy show of a team of professionals being drunk and doing stupid things. There is also an incredible amount of gross out humour and nude body bits of all kinds, because it’s set in Vegas so there’s wildly gratuitous shots in every episode.
And half the time, it’s terrible - way too slow, the mix of tense combat / high stakes and frat-boy fart jokes just doesn’t work at all, etc. But the actors are so good that you kinda want to see what happens, and if you can pretend you’re watching Archer it’s fine? Maybe? Weird show.

The reviews online seem to be either 1-star or 5-stars, which fits. This is either exactly your favourite (very silly, not good) thing or it isn’t

A recorded livestream of Andy Law (famous fantasy cartographer - does a lot of RPG maps - and one time producer of WFRP) mapping a town in WFRP. It is fascinating stuff but fuck me its long - 7hrs is just the first episode…

Anyone else watching The Bear?
We are in season 2 and like the show, but have no idea at all why it counts as a comedy show. It totally seems like a drama show. There are a lot of characters with a lot of baggage and problems. Drugs, anger and whatever.
We barely laughed at anything but it won a ton of prices as a comedy show.
Can anyone explain that to me please? Because I am really stumped.

I would say that it has a lot of dark humour but I don’t that I’d rate it as a comedy either. Either way, great show
I watched sideways (doing other stuff) when my partner watched it.
I wouldn’t have classified it as comedy.
Falls in the same category for me as The Menu showing the dark depths of fancy restaurant kitchens.
But as stated I didn’t really watch.
