What are you spinning?

Yes scores is perhaps the better word but they still call them original soundtracks

Went to see the mountain goats tonight so they will now be on permanent rotation for the next 2 weeks.

Much as I like them, I don’t think I could handle two weeks of John Darnielle.

Sort of new music from Nordic Giants. Some of these tracks have only previously been released on CD. Now they’ve been remixed/remastered for vinyl.

Oh and I won a signed test pressing!

I see that Jazz Emu is crowd-funding a concept album/film.

Tonight I’m off to the Death cab and postal service anniversary gig in Glasgow. As much as anniversary gigs are fun they do make you feel old.

Enjoy the silence and an iron and wine cover cover was a total delight.

I’ve been enjoying the albums put out by Shorty Long (the now defunct Austin ukulele-based hokum band, rather than the individual performer or other bands of the same name), a mix of covers and originals including Nancy From Nancy:

(And incidentally, if any of you know or can make out all of the words to the last verse then please let me know. I’m stuck on one of the lines and the outburst at the end).

EDIT: I have it! The muffled line is Just across from Delancy. I still can’t make out the outburst at the end, though.

Went to see Within Temptation last night. The current album “Bleed Out” is just good. But they also played a best-of all the way back to Mother Earth. Including Paradise, Faster, Supernova, Reckoning, Stand my Ground, A Shot in the Dark. This is probably the only band where I know all the songs at a concert.

I think my favorite song this time is this:

But this is not one for a live show.

One of my favorite live songs is Paradise, which is a duett with Tarja. I have seen it performed with her. But being on the final leg of the tour she couldn’t join in as she is touring herself. But she was there for earlier concerts I hear. Anyway: Sharon performs it great on her own as well.

The supportiung acts were Blind8 from Ukraine and Annisokay from Germany.
I joked that Blind8 were really young, they didn’t even have time to grow their hair out for headbanging. Then they explained that two band members will have to return to the frontlines in a few days when the tour ends -.-

I just noticed that some bands I like have new music, and I was going to order from bandcamp, but then spotted a banner saying this was starting in a few hours:

So I figured I’d wait for that, and share the link.

(I presume “100% of our proceeds” only means Bandcamp’s profits, and that the artist whose music you’re purchasing still gets their normal share. I wish the page was unambiguous on that point.)

Edit: I queried that with them, and they’ve confirmed: “For this fundraiser, we are only donating Bandcamp’s portion of sales. All artists will get their regular cut of 80-85% of the total sales.”

Currently listening to Angelm, the new album (a full decade after Pirohia)
from instrumental heavy rock maestros Kerretta:

Edit: I’d probably point newcomers at Pirohia or Saansilo first. I have little doubt of coming to appreciate all the quirks of the new album in time, but I think those two are probably more approachable. (I love Vilayer as well, but can recall finding parts of it a bit jarring compared to Saansilo the first time I heard Kerretta.)

Currently playing in my head: Within Temptation’s cover of “Let It Go” (from Frozen).

As far as I know they have never preformed this song. That’s not stopping my head.

Internet reminded me that Random Access Memories exists. Listened to it again after so many years and RAM’s still a banger
