Unmatched game system PBF

hi! i new here, and wondering if anybody would be interested in an unmatched PBF game. I’m new to this, so it’ll be a learning experience

As the resident Unmatched fanatic, I would be interested. Due to the hidden info of player hands and decks, I believe a moderator would be required, though.

@COMaestro I might be able to moderate. It has been quite some time since I played so I’d need to relearn the rules myself! Any info or assets beyond those in the Unmatched Database (Unmatched Maker) that would be required for me to run it?

Only issue might be the board images. They are pretty small on there and don’t know how they will look if enlarged.

I have every board, so I could try scanning them if needed to see how that turns out.

Well, since @Assussanni has been kind enough to volunteer to moderate a game, a lot of the weight is going to be on him. To start, I think we would need to pick our heroes and a board to play on. We can do a roll off or something to determine who goes first, and therefore on the ‘1’ space on the board.

It’ll be up to Assussanni to randomize our decks and give us our starting hands. Then we’d start. Maneuvers require a mandatory card draw, so he’d have to PM that to the active player before they decide where they are going to move, after which the board image will need to be updated.
Attacks will involve a PM to him with what card is being played to attack with, though once the attack has been declared, the defender can probably just post any card they defend with in the PbF thread, at which point either Assussanni or the attacker can post the attack card in the thread. The PM is just to keep the attacking player honest.

Schemes should be able to be posted in the thread with no issue.

Do you have a fighter in mind you would like to play as? As far as a board, I would suggest none of the Marvel boards, just to avoid needing to deal with the battlefield items, but everything else should be fair game.

I’m fine with any map, so King Solomon’s Mines works for me.

I’ll try a fighter I have not played yet. I’ll go with Hamlet.

@Assussanni - this enough to get you started? Do you need any help with anything?

I think I’ve probably got everything I need and I’ve refreshed myself on the rules (and realised that the last time I played was sometime in 2021!).

For assets, The Unmatched Club seems to be a better site.
Board: King Solomon’s Mines (1337×742)
Beowulf cards: The Unmatched Club | Hero - Beowulf
Hamlet cards: The Unmatched Club | Hero - Hamlet

I think the only thing I’ll have to make is some hero and sidekick tokens for the map.

I’ll aim to have everything together tomorrow evening (UK time), hopefully aiming to start in about 24 hours or so.

@COMaestro 's explanation of play-by-forum was a good one, I’ll also post my own summary of how I think it will work before the game starts for @phinleep . You could also have a look at any of the other PBFs going on to get an idea, e.g. John Company PBF - Boardgames - tekeli.li forums, including unofficial SU&SD discussion or A War of Whispers PBF#1 - Boardgames / Play by Post - tekeli.li forums, including unofficial SU&SD discussion, if you haven’t already.

Welcome to the site! Please let me or another member of the moderation team know if you have any questions.

Enjoy!

P.S. feel free to browse about the place: we keep all the doors unlocked during regular operating hours. I can recommend “Oy!” “Wut?” Just chat (The Return of) for some random chitchat.
