Oops yes sorry, Ceres
More authentically, of course, Цере́ра.
(Apparently there are Cyrillic glyphs in the font I’m using, so if you’d like your ship names Cyrillicised that’s no problem at all. Just say the word.)
@denisbloodnok , it’s now the aliens’ turn to set up: four (identical) ships, anywhere on the top row, with a speed of 1 in any direction you like. I’ll do a hex-numbered version if you wish.
Yew please, Cyril me up Comrade!
I spent a while pondering whether I wanted to set up all together or widely separated, but I’ve gone for the first option: set up in 1055, we seem to be missing the compass rose but heading C (towards 1054). Assigned reporting names for ships are “Sigmund”, “Yuif”, “Natasha”, and “Psyche”. Full load of mines, but I don’t think I have a choice there anyway.
It is doubtless redundant to point out that only one of you can win, you both outgun me individually, you don’t lose any worse if I win than if the other human party wins, and your initial placements give an advantage to one party.
The last scenario ended up feeling fairly unbalanced too. I like the asymmetry they’re trying for rather than just lining up ships and blasting away, but the die rolling is distinctly odd, and this doesn’t give me much hope for the big campaign-type games of miners, merchants, pirates and the Space Patrol. (And the randomness gets worse - Fleet Mutiny could be anything from a 0-12 to a 5-7 fight.)
No subsets of the map yet, but I’ll put them on if they seem relevant or if anyone asks for them.
I’ll pick a random play order now, and keep it for the rest of the game.
Aliens
EastBloc
WestBloc
which is conveniently alphabetical.
I’m stirring, not sandbagging. You’ve got so many ships, maybe you should be fighting over who gets the crack at me…
All ships coast this turn.
@Lordof1, over to you.
Okay, we’ll, everyone is scrambling from everywhere, Earth at A.
Need a direction for your Ceres launches too.
Also whether or not you’re taking the weak lunar gravity or retaining your launch speed.
Ceres A, all ships capable of ignoring gravity will do so
Tweaking things around a bit so that ships launch from the right bases. Everything launches, ignoring weak gravity where possible.
We come in peace for all mankind. Phasers to kill.
For future ease, I’m keeping my fleets together unless stated otherwise, and will move them together as Zemlya, Luna and Цере́ра fleets, if that’s okay.
It’s me, isn’t it? Thrust D. (Like Lordof1, I’ll say explicitly when I want to break formation).
@Lordof1 to play. I’m going to be away this afternoon and weekend; I may have time to do updates, but don’t be surprised if not.
Ceres E, Terra and Luna D. First contact protocol engaged.
I’m back from Portsmouth (times banged head on interior of HMS Victory: 3; times banged head on still tinier interior of submarine: 0) and will have a C, please.
Ooh. I keep meaning to visit the Submarine Museum. Did see Vesikko last year while at the Worldcon.
