The gaslands project did the job at getting me wanting to paint again. I thought I’d tackle some skin tones on this lady. I’ve been avoiding her as I’m not happy with the direction on the base or chair at all. Hopefully after some more work on them they’ll improve. I’m also planning to darken them down a lot with shadows (Payne’s grey) and then tie everything together with some cyberpunk OSL. It’s quite different working on something so big.
The other twist for this one will be an alcohol based metal paint for the augments to get an over the top Chrome effect. Still not sure how I feel about the underwear and chest, but hey ho, there’s only so many sculptors out there making high enough detail for this size, and it fits the theme/genre.
Edit: and now seeing the photos there’s dust that’s settled onto her chin that I’ll need to address. Maybe she’ll have acne if I can’t get it smooth easily!
Just blocking in some colours and having having a look at the scheme. Maybe not as awful as I thought, but the chair still needs changing a fair bit.
I decided to try a translucent effect for the top which is new to me, but I’m pretty happy with it so far. I figured the nipples are there whether I paint them or not so I may as well lean into it and go full cyberpunk.
This is everything I painted for that one commission… $3,100 (I gave him a discount of $100 for a model he changed his mind about me painting) worth of Dystopian Wars.
Fist up are the Goblin Pirates from Confrontation. Still got a few more to do but these are the Captain Character and the basic crew. They’re something of an exercise in doing loads of nmm quickly to try and learn and improve. The highlight and shadow are quite desaturating so many look a touch dull. Decided to abandon the consistency for the remaining ones.
Mole friar which was inspired by @Scribbs and all their wonderful Burrows and Badgers paint jobs. Dark environment for the back and shaft of daylight catching them preaching was the aim here. Not sure how successful that is but I like the paint job even if I think I could improve on the lighting aspects
They look really good. I envy your patience to get through all that at such a consistent and high gaming standard.
I hated commission painting and I’m impressed you got a proper wage for your work and that you lived up to the value throughout. Did you choose the colour scheme or was it your client? Nice to see app those turrets in situ. Much less mind collapsing.
Thanks very much. They’re on 70mm bases, so pretty big figures, but they painted up very nicely and quickly mainly by drybrushing and washes over a dark base.
You have some really nice neat painting. I think some sort of wash on the metallics would give a little boost. If you have easy access to GW paints then a slightly thinned ratling grime would go on a treat
