The resurrected miniatures painting and showing off thread

Thanks!
Huh, in looking at my FLGS and Steamforged websites, it’s still listed for preorder, with the official release being Monday. I must have snagged one while they were dealing with their deliveries. It was a couple weeks ago, while they were also hosting a game swap, so the store was in a bit of shambles.

I’m lucky that one of the longtime employees there is a massive Godtear fan, so they should be carrying each new crew that comes out.

I’ll keep watching but they had the last few champions up for preorder fairly early (1-2 months), so the fact that they haven’t listed it at all has me wondering if they’ve just moved on. That said, it’s also possible they just aren’t doing preorders for it.

Two Aristeia Models (Inquistor Somebody and Moonwolf Someone) and a batch of Yu Jing models done to my current “just get them done” quality.

Finished with these guys, moving on to the next batch of speed painting Infinity models… 12 O-12 models (coincidental, I assure you). Hoping to have them done by the end of the week.

Had a go at smaller scale Napoleonics, a small sample pack of 6mm models. Not quite ready to jump into this scale yet, but nice to try something a little different.

For a size comparison, here’s a WIP 28mm Old Guard Grenadier next to the 6mm grumblers.

And here’s the finished grenadier. Quite happy with the base and the muddy weathering on his coat.

Electra finally joins the fray. Either I’ve been busy and tired or she’s been doing loads of extra training.

Starting work on some of these kruleboyz. Going for a dirty and damp look.

And after a few hours the rest of the little ones are well on the way.

I wasn’t expecting to finish these guys today.

I’m liking the grimy and forgiving scheme for getting them done fast.

Starting painting the green skins

I’m pretty pleased with the skin on that giant rat beast thing.

Three more Frenchmen on the way home from Moscow, including a pair of cavalrymen sadly reduced to foot slogging.

First attempt at a new colour scheme for my next Infinity force. Hopefully a little practice and this’ll start looking snazzy. Time to brush up on catholic history now

More small Napoleonics. Polish lancers from the Vistula Legion

Thought it was time to try something new.

Wasn’t happy with doing these axes with regular bone shading and metal hafts when the army’s got very little in the way of metallics. So, thought it would make a good excuse to try non-metallic metal for the first time

Thinking behind it is keeping the bone for the whole weapon, but the using the turquoise to indicate an internal power source.
Going to take a while to work through the weapons of 10 wraithblades, but I’m sure with practice I’ll get much quicker

I’ve posted these before, but now they’re completely done. A colleague of mine offered to attach decals to the mechs, and I was very grateful for his offer! You can see the Clan Wolf decals here…

And the decals on the Inner Sphere (Steiner) mechs here…

I also attached grass to the bases, just to mix it up a little.

But that’s everything! In a few weeks I expect the next wave of Battletech stuff to show up at the store, and so I can paint a few more then, but for now, this is 1 of everything that was available in Wave 1 of the Battletech reboot. Plus about 30 other tanks, helicopters, hovercraft, and APCs that I assembled and painted for my Steiner, although I don’t know if/when I’ll use those because, really, I mostly want big stompy robots.

I mean, who doesn’t?

Decals and grass look great!

You could, theoretically, make the argument “People who want to win”… apparently swarms of low-skill pilots in light vehicles is almost impossible to stop in some versions of the game.

And, full disclosure, I also painted like… 60 tanks, helis, and APCs just in case. Way too many, really, but I didn’t realize when I ordered them they were in packs of 5 not individual. Whoops.

Exciting news on the painting front (well, for a certain definition of exciting): I am getting my first every 3D printed models to paint! A buddy printed up 4 Madcats for me to try and paint up… I’m excited to see how they turn out!

Hope you guys don’t mind a little derailment here, but I’m curious about any recommendations for good, reasonably priced miniatures for generic use. My experience is limited and I haven’t looked into minis from the smaller players since Ral Partha was a marque to look for.

I’m not picky, though if I had my druthers my material preference goes HIP>metal>resin. For the moment this is explicitly for Stargrave but just “sci-fi” would point me in the right direction.

@Marx any Canadian sculptors you recommend? I think Bob Murch is “local” to me but that’s about the extent of it.

I don’t actually know any model-agnostic miniature designers… I know a handful of 3D printers (engineers with 3D printers, I suppose), but nobody that designs minis without a specific game in mind.

Ironically, I know lots of model-agnostic games (Stargrave, Last Days Zombies, Gamma Wolves, etc…).

I know that the company that makes the D&D and Pathfinder minis is starting to branch out (they’re doing Cyberpunk minis, as well as a few other game systems), but yeah, no sculptors I know. Sorry!
