No big dinosaur meeple?? Pass.
Damn it! Speakeasy is such a cool theme but do I need another Vital Lacerda game.
No. (For ten characters)
Watched a couple of videos and it does just look like another Lacerda, some nuances but canāt really identify the special sauce that would make me take the plunge. Although that themeā¦
The theme made me intrigued because it made me wonder: what if being a gangster don is less about being some badass like scar face but a more about being proper numbers nerd, managing loads of payroll and work establishments.
The Unmatched Adventures: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles KS launched today. Already reached the funding goal of $250k and will soon double it. Backed!
I read somewhere that medieval knights are less douche-balloons in armour fighting private wars*, and more accountants and administrators. Not sure if true.
*they are still a bunch of douche-balloons though
They are not doing themselves any favor with the promotional video, but I backed Dragonslayer anyway.
This is basically one of the reasons the Knights Templar got done in. They apparently invented banking! Or something like this. I hope Dan brown hasnāt lied to me.
Oh gosh, nobody tell him!
IIRC the novel history is based off of a money grabbing scheme by a frenchman named Plantard, similar to the āvaccines cause autismā scheme weāre still weathering today. Plantard, like Wakefield, was exposed, but his alternate history survived and was regurgitated by Brown as fact.
I remember the stir it caused when it was released as everyone tried to separate fact from novelization. I still wonder if Brown actually believes it, based on how he presented it.
I donāt think heās lied to you about them doing some early form of what became banking; Iām pretty sure Iāve read that in reputable histories.
They certainly had financial interests in stuff. But then they were connected to the Church, which has never exactly been money-averse!
If I remember correctly, and this is from history books on the Templars, not anything by Brown, travelers to the Holy Land could give their money to the Templars for basically a letter of credit, which they could then use along their journey to withdraw funds once they reached Jerusalem. Meant they didnāt need to bring as much money for the journey, and even if they got robbed on the way, they would still have money waiting for them at their destination.
And since usury is frown by the Church, they dont charge interest rates, they have āservice chargesā.
Im sure theres scholarly work on this that knows more than me, but the trials are part of this trend where the Kings of France are moving slowly towards Absolutism. France later then had the Hundred Years War that gutted the French nobility and therefore their power (Agincourt alone killed so many). A powerful state within a state is no bueno (to use a French phrase) for an ambitious French King
Mine arrived:
Without any insert, everything fits snugly but not aggravating in the core box.
They did some chonky wood and thick cardboard here. I think they love their game.
Two are remakes I think ā¦ one of them is Beowulf which gets mentioned on Svwag recently.
Beat me to it!
The other is Municipium.
And this is the team that remade Quo Vadis.
So far, I really like how they reproduced his old games. Old German games were clearly marketed towards the average German family during the 90s and the production style of these reimplementations is preferable compare to what aesthetics that old farts prefer.
The first looks very interesting. The second looks interesting but possibly redundant with the wealth of games I already have. The third hasnāt grabbed me, sounds light and frivolous and like Iād rather be playing Flamme Rouge or Heat.
And if Iām not bundling for the deluxe components, you can get these cheaper at retail. Bitewing and Allplay work closely together, but Allplay controls its prices pretty tightly while Bitewing only rewards you for the bundle.
Iāll probably take another look when I have more time.
