The big no for me, aside from everything is the lack of verticality.
Worms for me is a 2D map on an XY plane, not XZ plane.

Awesome feeling when you drill underground and then call for an airstrike
This immediately made me go dead. Worms on a frigging bog standard hex-field? And how do I even blow that hex field up? And then where do I FALL? I can get behind a wacky, quick skirmisher but the IP tie-in factor here feels as soulless as it gets. Mantic are a UK studio though, maybe some true love burns through?
Bezier really flogging that dead/alive cat

Thereās a BGG contest so Iām excused thinking about it until that expires.
It seems kind of silly to me. A trick taking game that needs a rucksack to play. Still I like the plush cat.
Exactly. One of the appeals of trick taking is that itās a bunch of cards. Although, some titles have other components to complement the card game. But, donāt worry, Iām sure the consumer will also miss the point.
I canāt help but think that these would be great for a novelty if I had one of those Huge American Houses With Infinite Storage For Your Visit To Samās Club.
I donāt, so Iāll maximise my space by going small.
One big board you slide expansion boards into⦠or you could, yknow, print 3 small boards?
I managed to get this package despite it being addressed to the old address by redirecting it to Packstation. Also I have a Nachsendeauftrag in place that includes packages (for 7⬠a piece oO).
Because of the constant delays with the move, this morning I have done a review of my open crowdfunding campaigns and sadly I have 6 more āincomingā campaigns with address locked to my old place. If they are all shipping with DHL I am mostly good, I get notifications and redirect options for those and the Nachsendeauftrag should grab those if I miss notifications. But if any of them ship cheaplyā¦
I have not figured out how to access the Allplay pledge manager to change addresses and I have 2 open campaigns with them that I do not have information about where they are shipping.
I do not think most people have as much back and forth over such a long time period with a move so this really does not apply to anyone else⦠but it sucks that Kickstarters mostly use external pledge managers that are almost all Backerkit but with unique URLs that are really difficult to find later on. Gamefound and Backerkit are better in that regard.
PS: sorry I didnāt have a pear
This launches tomorrow
18XX but
Hmmm
Iām curious what all of our resident 18XXperts think about this one.
I hate doing homework because Im lazy, but I did it because I canāt sleep due to ruined sleeping schedule and the heat.
Sounds very much like run-good-companies a la 1861: Russian Empire. This is where the problem goes. I dont like 1861, but the issuing of shares and the special power combos pushing it closer to 1846: Race to the Midwest, which I really like. Which one is this game? More like the former or the latter or neither?
Iām not sold on setup variability. Seems like a modern design thing to grab the attention of modern Euro gamers - which is fine. But donāt expect variability to add more depth. Chicago Express and most 18xx titles have static variability, but have more depth than most games Iāve played.
Im not really that good enough to talk about the nuance just by looking at the rules and the train roster. But since Iām here, might as well keep going.
Say, you have a 4 player game - meaning each player starts with Ā£275 each. Starting bids on each minor company is Ā£120 with increments of Ā£5. So, provided that players arenāt gung-ho on bidding, you can have 8 companies starting on SR1 with at least Ā£120 in their treasury. There are only 7 2-trains costing at Ā£100, so the 8th company on the turn order has to issue shares to get the 3-train. Share value decreased both for issuing shares and not running. The big change here is that companies can buy trains on the get-go, which allows them to run on their first operating round.
Now, 6 3-trains left before one can purchase a 4 and rust the 2ās. This is all theory, but it seems interesting where if youāre one of the companies with 2ās and itās not the best paying company, youād best issue a share to get a 3 to stop the delta from widening and shift the game to your favour
Merging your own two companies seems to be the normal here. Youād want to merge with another to take theirs over, but why would they consent? Lack of funds? Anyway, merging sounds great not to do it. Best to have one big company where you get both Bonus A and Bonus B added up and pays into your 6 shares, rather than having Company A holding in 3 shares with just Bonus A and Company B also with 3 shares with Bonus B.
Standard 18xx where 5ās and beyond are permanent trains. So, I have a feeling that investing on other companies - unless your companies need more capital - is the better option.
Thereās still a lot I donāt understand since itās all just theory rather than playing it for real. I would be keen to try it.
Yeah, I didnāt get that bit of the rules. You merge if both directors agree. Why would another player agree? Seems wooly rule writing to get out of writing some rules around it.
The only time I merged my company with someone in 1861: Russian Empire is dump that company to someone else and thatās the only company Iām connected to. They thought thereās value with it still so they agreed. Thereās the rule that they have to be connected which can force different players to merge out of necessity, but not sure how often youād see that. Thereās no rule here that allows you to do a āconvertā instead - where you change a minor into a major without merging.
In Dreams arrived, and it seems like a nice production. Side Room Games have used the same slide-open box type they did for For Northwood! (slightly thinner here as there are fewer cards); the little instruction booklet has lovely large clear text; and the poker-sized cards themselves look nice. Leafing through the deck, the artwork isnāt so reminiscent of Dixit as I previously thought it might be ā the pictures are not as detailed or distinct (which might be a thematic artistic choice, but I imagine itās more that the art budget was smaller), and while the images here are often surreal, theyāre also fairly specific scenes whereas Dixit cards tend to have a lot of different things going on. I imagine that the artwork does the job required of it for this game, though.
Iām on holiday until next week, so hopefully Iāll try it out in the next few days!
Do I want to back https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rebellionunplugged/joyride-survival-of-the-fastest ?

Negative:
Based on these two, no
On Tabletop did a playthrough of it. Something about it came off as a bit wonky to me. Worth a look if youāre curious.
As @lalunaverde posted in the trick takers thread, Haggis and Tricktakers up. $22 each, shipping for both games is $20 (ouch), Looks like $5 additional shipping per extra game. Iām going to back them, so if anyone in the UK wants to split shipping speak up!
This option exists thoughā¦Group Buy
