Star Trek Ascendancy game 3

So you end up losing a resource of your choice (presumably Production rather than Culture), and getting one Production.

Next card is 7, Federation (@Canadian_Errant).

@RogerBW Isn’t Excaliba hazardous, or am I misunderstanding your notation? If so, do the surviving ships of the Mining Fleet have to brave the hazard?

@RogerBW asked for a die roll:
Argh. Sorry, long weekend.

Mining Fleet ships lost on 4+: pool 4d6: 1, 4, 2× 5
If any of them are lost, I’ll reroll the rest.

@RogerBW asked for a die roll:
Yikes.

  • Facing the hazard-5:
    d6: 6 lost on 5
  • if it survives, d6: 3 bonus resource on 4+

No, sorry, that ends up losing you one resource, and all those ships are gone.

Well that was a disastrous turn from start to finish.

I’ll lose one culture. End of turn resources: 3p, 0r, 3c.

You usually don’t want to “explore” with the mining fleet…
Let the single ship do that.

(I’m mainly using fleets to get 3+ ships somewhere and then branch off. Barring a crystalline entity or two it always seems safer to me.)

Anyway, over to @Canadian_Errant .

@Canadian_Errant asked for a die roll:
My apologies, been an absolute ****-show at work this weekend.

Build Phase:
Build a Ship at Earth,
Build a (second) Research Node on Beta XII-A

Command Phase
C1: Commission A starbase in Valakis VI
C2: Start a second advancement- Long Range Sensors (I believe I can do this b/c I have two active research nodes- one on Earth and one on Beta XII-A
C3: The ship that left Earth at warp (last turn- C5) comes out of warp heading due east (generally towards Valakis VI)
d3+1: 2 Pause her for dramatic effect/things being sorted from that

(I apologise if I’ve screwed things up again but… I don’t think I have)

Build phase is fine - though I might ask whether you wanted to put any Research into The Cochrane Institute. (You can use one per turn per project, and anything apart from that has to come from phenomena etc.

You can in fact now have three ongoing research projects thanks to your three research nodes.

When you dewarp, you can emerge (number of warp tokens) systems away from your starting point (remembering to add warp tokens from advancements, though you don’t have any yet). So you could build that new space lane either from Earth or from Beta. Which should it be?

Yes please to research into Cochrane Institute (wasn’t sure I had enough).

I emerge a system away from Beta, to the east. (I wonder if Cordelia Vorkosigan would be proud)

@RogerBW asked for a die roll:
You can’t complete Cochrane Institute right now, but IME it’s usually worth dripping in one per turn unless you have something more important to spend it on.

System: The Badlands (H4 Phenomenon-5) (Ships must end movement here.)
Ship is lost on 4+: d6: 6

Two commands remain.

Turns out several days of the legal maximum of works hours is bad for my mental math- I miscalculated how much research I was using. So yes, the 1 into Cochrane.

(Starfleet mourns the loss of that ship)
C4: Begin Multicultural Collaboration
C5: The remaining ship from Earth will jump into warp (heading E from Earth, when that matters)

Card 8 goes to Borg NPCs.
Card 9 is the Vulcans (@Delwayne).

Vulcans:
Build 3 Ships, form them into Fleet#2 (Science Halitra)
To clarify. Can I colonize Weytahn now? without being there?

Yes, you can colonise any undeveloped system by paying an Ascendancy; you don’t need a ship on site.
