Sizes of boxes that feel... right

A couple of perfectly-sized boxes (Trailblazers and Things in Rings):

Trailblazers Travel pack is so neat :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Isn’t it? And you can throw it into any bag…

Nusfjord Big Box is a LOT of cardboard, it took two goes to repack it after punching it all out. Fills to the brim nicely, satisfyingly heavy box.

Also quite intimidating to see they give you something like 30 empty small polythene bags because you’re going to need them… The component quality is wonderful though.

They cut down a tree for every cppy of an Uwe Rosenberg game.

I don’t own Caverna …. but I hear that one is the … heaviest of his games.

General Orders: Sengoku Jidai arrived, and the box really couldn’t be any better.

It’s a very compact affair – the same width and length as both Village Green and Village Rails (also from Osprey), but 50% taller than VG and a few mm less tall than VR.

The insert has two differently-sized sections, with space above for larger components to sit on top. The card deck was in the smaller side of the well, and the larger side had two zip-lock bags containing a (surprisingly large) number of wooden tokens. After sleeving the cards, I found they fitted in the larger side of the well (which was just deep enough to still contain them), while the tokens all fitted into the smaller side once they were emptied from their bags. Everything above the well covers the full box area, and fills the box up to the brim, so nothing can spill from the wells, and there is absolutely no wasted space.

I briefly thought I’d need to up-end the box (potentially causing spillage) to get the double-folded map out, because there’s so little space around the edges; but then I realised that there’s a separate sheet of cardboard which can be used to lever it out easily.

Lovely stuff! Well done Osprey.

Osprey must do their manufacturing in a vacuum, because I’ve noticed that they are practically unwilling to ship boxes with extra air in.

Nusfjord is also a delight on the table - the way all the boards just fit together.

Attention to detail from start to finish on that one.

I gather they have fairly set box sizes these days, so they try to scale games to the box size but it’s a bit hit-and-miss. It used to be that all of their games were snug, but The King is Dead 2nd Edition is a particularly egregious example of a box full of air.

Yes, TKIDed2, whilst attractive on the outside, is by far the “least right” box I’ve ever seen from Osprey. Everything before and after that, though (at least in my collection) has been well above average in these regards (and often a top-tier effort; which is why that one oversized box of air with the worse insert ever was such a surprise).

That box is a very good size for putting a box of wine in though

I know some convention venues are getting arsey about bringing in food and drink, but…

One of my friends was asked to open some of their game boxes at the door at Airecon to check for contraband, but somehow the security person missed the clearly visible box of snacks in the same bag :woman_shrugging:

And here’s me thinking, that’s a weird way to transport blood.

I’m not a vampire, honest

I keep The King Is Dead in the Brian Boru box.

I have a nagging feeling there’s a joke in that somewhere.
