Self-Promotion, With Or Without Shame

The thing that made the difference for me is that the fully built sets in their HQ building are unbelievable - doors that go shhhh, loads of big rooms, crystal maze type running around corridors to fix the engine / eject the warp core. Also some full-time actors in the room with you who will love to improvise if you give them any excuse at all.

There’s ongoing plot too. My partner Emily is the very formal but much admired Captain Athena Hamilton, and Bridge Command just got aliens for the first time, so there’s a war now. They had an event day where (this is all public knowledge) the aliens turned out to be deadlier than expected.

Captain Hamilton was flying the other big ship on the viewscreens and ordered an evacuation of that one, last person off was their protesting love interest, then the players saw Hamilton’s ship blow up.

They spent the next hour thinking the Captain is dead, but at the very end receive a message on the main screen. These aliens are organic, and it’s Hamilton having been fully Picard Borged (but organic) announcing that they are the Herald of the aliens now, and they’re here to tell you that human civilisation is doomed.

So the next big mission is RESCUE HAMILTON!

Meanwhile, until that happens, Emily will be playing Athena’s twin sister Artemis Hamilton (who the players have previously met), a much nicer and deceptively charismatic individual who just happens to work for shady Military Intelligence and may as well be wearing a mirror universe evil goatee ™.

So the writers really know what the crowd wants, is what I’m saying.

There’s also ongoing rivalries, someone’s written a murder mystery set on the ship, folk go multiple times if only to catch up on the gossip in the bar.

The thing I liked is that what we did made a small change to the overall picture of the ongoing campaign. Loved the enthusiasm of the team too - they honestly were excited by what they were doing :slightly_smiling_face:

I mentioned it a while back, but I’ve started a Battletech-fiction podcast. It’s very niche, but if you like sci-fi about stompy robots, maybe give it a listen? Or mention it to your friends who like big stompy robots?

It’s half gladiatorial combat, half lectures on Inner Sphere politics, history, and lore.

It should be available through your podcatcher of choice! And reviews, as always, are worth more than gold in my universe.
