I was debating whether to go to war the last 3-4 turns to try and get a better lead, but didn’t want to shoot myself in the foot. I was stressing! I never had a wealth of any particular color. That was a good one.
Nice game! It was difficult for me to compete. I think I lost a bad war where I spent good amount of tiles and still lost. That was a painful setback to me
Cuba Libre - I played as the Directorio this time and I found them to be difficult (along with the Mafia). I spend the next few days figuring out what to do with DR and Mafia - you can read my write-up here in BGG
Time of Crisis - 4 player game. As usual, poor old me was targeted because I accidentally become the emperor. Went from earning 10 pts to 1 or 0 pts. Always the threat; never the winner…
Played this as well on Rally the Troops where @mr.ister smashed us, and another 4 player game with the OG Guild.
Push It! - it’s been a while and I should be bringing this often. Great game. A poor man’s Crokinole
Skull
Cactus Town - a KS game that brought by a club member who likes minis and area controls and stuff. I usually like his stuff, but this one is pretty lame.
Fresh Fish - opaque. I am now appreciating the genius of this game. Alas, the road-building was hard to understand by everyone else. I need to get a better rulebook written by a fan in BGG. I’m sure there will be one. This rulebook is so awful that there’s got to be one in there!
We played with the 1st edition of course! The better edition.
Noli - this one is a blind buy from UKGE. I talked to the people in the stand and they are a small timer publisher and this game is a blind auction with real-time dice rolling. After the guy explained the game to me, I bought it because it sounds good, it’s cheap, and it’s nice to support the little publishers. And woah, our table had a great time. Incredibly fast and loose blind bidding and rapid dice-rolling that had us laughing. I insisted that you shout the name of your House when you finish your dice rolling, and shout “MAN OVERBOARD!” if you drop a die. It was awesome.
I thought this will be like an old German 90s game with a lot of chin-rubbing, but no. It’s fast and loose. We played 4 players under 1 hour. And it got some clever subtleties to it. It’s amazing.
EDIT:
Pax Renaissance - I’ve been playing a lot of Pax Ren and Pax Pamir this and the previous year, and pretty chuffed about it. But I’m now forming the opinion that while Pax Pamir is the lighter and therefore more abstracted game (easier to pick up), Pax Renaissance is solidly my fave now… I’m still not seeing the shine of Pax Porfiriana. And I still have my issue with Pax Transhumanity where your “initial secret card” can put you on an advantage or disadvantage based on others’ selected “initial secret card” but we don’t know that at all, because they are all secret. Kinda like FCM’s secret money bid where the table secretly decides how much money will be in the 2nd bank. But maybe with more plays, I might see if this initial card choice might not be as impactful as I thought
Still, a great time with it. Attempts were made by people to take over Europe and Middle East with kings were thwarted and we found ourselves in a good position for a Republic victory with republican revolutions and good amount of cards with law icons. I never get to control the Ottoman Empire which was my usual strategic move.
I now prefer the latter scenario where England and the Holy Roman Empire start off as Protestants to give Protestant/Orthodox a step up.
Another game of Star Wars the Deckbuilding Game. We are now randomizing who gets which side, and tonight I ended up playing the Empire.
She killed my first base in three turns, but that let me use the ability of my second base to take Jabba into hand. This ended up revealing the Millennium Falcon though, which she took when I took out her first base, though she had damaged mine heavily by then.
However, I had managed to purchase some damaging cards in the intervening turns, and while she took out my second base on her next turn, I was able to take out her second base in one turn.
I drew a fantastic hand for my next turn and was able to win the game by doing 16 damage to her final base. I got lucky that she did not draw her cap ship, as that would have given her another turn, and while my base was unscathed and had a cap ship of its own to soak a bit of damage, a lucky draw still might have given her the win.
First time this year that I’ve had gamers over to my place, and it’s been longer than that since we played multiple games rather than one long one.
- First, my top games of UKGE, Tinderblox and Tinderblox Sunset. I did terribly this time, but had great fun as always.
- Rallyman: GT because I love it more than is entirely reasonable.
- Tsuro which I managed to end with a draw between the last two players.
- Piepmatz which is always fun to teach as well as to play.
- Revolution! which I’m going to carry on bringing to games events - it’s stood the test of time well.
- And finally Lemminge which always goes over well.
Someone in my club recommended that I should get this Steve Jackson game.
I used to demo it when it was in print, and I’ve recently been reminded of it and found it still enjoyable. Currently quite hard to find (though I see elsewhere you’ve got a copy); SJG did a KS for “Pathfinder Revolution” last summer - and then cancelled it because it wasn’t doing well enough. ($60 plus shipping, US only, may have been a factor, and 5-6 player mode was a stretch goal; they’ve talked about a relaunch but I haven’t seen anything further.)
I’ve seen that happen once. So satisfying!
Welcome to the world of GMT games. Entirely possibly not an exaggeration…
If you don’t want it anymore, I’ll have it
Our group is really into COIN games atm.
I reckon we’re a third of the way through the cards at 4 hours in…
That’s significantly faster than 25 years per 12 cards though
About 10 minutes later I squeaked a win, which is just as well since this wasn’t going to go well for me if we’d had another round

Did the Romans disintegrate?
In my one experience of COIN (with Captbnut) I had a similar moment where if something broadly favourable came up I would have won but instead it didn’t and my game went to vinegar. I kind of like this about a historical game which says that the games are about windows and moments and you sort of need things to align in the right way to succeed. When a game has X rounds that feeling is sort of there but with everyone’s peak moment arriving at the same time (the very last turn of a game) it’s much less about opportunity and the fleeting nature of spotting and grasping opportunity.
What game is this?
We got as far as British autonomy
Pictomania: A couple of our friends had never played this so it was an obvious choice because it’s always a really fun time.
Scotland Yard: Mr. X started in a bad position at the top of the board and near a couple of detectives, and wasn’t able to slip out of that area. Ran around a lot with taxis and a few of us were close to being out of taxi tickets but ultimately he was penned in.
No Thanks: Took an early 33 and was able to drum up enough counters on the 32, 34, and 35 that my ultimate score was 6.
For Sale: Such a good game! Honestly makes me wonder what I’ve been missing out on in terms of auction games. Perhaps I should just buy Modern Art?
