Sympathies on your loss. C and I lost our third cat, Taiki, just days before we moved from San Diego to Riverside, and that was really hard.
What I experienced especially with our first cat, Felon, was that for the first weeks his death loomed really large; but as time passed, the greater magnitude of his life became visible again, and the best memories of him came back. I hope that happens to you with Dharma.
(I like the name “Dharma”; I’m fond of the tv series Dharma and Greg because one of its leads has such a perfect hippie name.)
Small update on both the rabbits in the yard and the newly acquired dog: the dog has now been named Gwen, or more formally Guinevere. She and the yard rabbits are aware of each other’s existence. She would very much like to get better acquainted with the bunnies and takes every opportunity to smell after them, attempt to chase them, or watch them through the front window. They would very much prefer not to get to know her any better and generally scurry away as quickly as possible when aware she is around.
The cats. Spirit (top) and Magic. They’re brothers, about 4 months old, we’ve had them for a month. I need to pick up the food bowls, they’re due for neutering in the morning, poor things.
Gwen’s stylish ruff is to prevent her from licking her stitches from when she was fixed. I believe it is Virginia state law that rescue animals must be fixed before leaving the shelter.
Illinois has a similar law. We have technically been fostering the cats, because they hadn’t been neutered. they’re now home, and lounging on the cat tree. They’re rather annoyed that they have not gotten their gushy food tonight (vet’s orders).
Our vet recommends that we switch Macavity over to soft food, but we anticipate its being an ordeal, as he’s used to kibble and unwilling to eat anything else.
The hooves you hear are a hobbyhorse being trotted out.
An all kibble diet is not good for cats. It is particularly bad for neutered males. Not ideal for dogs, either.
There’s a lot of info about this out there: I would encourage any catted person to have a read, at least
Please don’t take this as an implied criticism - there’s a huge vested interest out there, selling kibble - but as a general fondness for The Cat.
Just realized I’ve failed to provide pics of my cats Susan (back, 12 years old) and Thor (front, 2 years old). This is a remarkably tolerant Susan we’re seeing here, actually allowing Thor to be that close. I suspect it’s because his back is to her.
Despite the similarities in their coloration, they’re almost certainly completely unrelated, although they were both rescued as kittens in the same city.
Rolo the Pub Dog would like me to know that he is starving to death through no fault of his own, but that just a little bit of the sausage and bacon on my plate would help him to start a new life.
