Hot day, doors open. BT engineer comes over to furkle something with the phone line. I’m working elsewhere in the house.
Him: “Your cat looks hungry.”
Me: “I don’t have a cat.”
And there it is, making itself at home on the rug…
In that place (long row of terraced houses, originally 2-up 2-down outside-toilet, variously improved over the decades) I and my neighbour to one side had matching extensions, with a shared yard between them, fence down the middle, corrugated plastic covering it. Local cats would frequently walk across the plastic from one side to the other. Until the weekend that we’d taken it off to replace it with something a bit less UV-damaged… naturally, the cat’s expression was “meant to do that”, and they seemed unhurt and wandered off after a pause to collect their dignity.
Friends of ours had someone staying in their condo for a couple weeks, while they were elsewhere. They got home, and discovered they now had five cats, not four. It had whined loudly outside the back door the day the cat sitter arrived, so she’d let it in.
When my friends got home, they took the interloper to the vet who read the cat’s chip, and called the owner. “Yeah, he’s done that before.”, they got told.
I think the best story I saw about this was from a friend in England, that when their neighbours house went on sale went online to have a look at the pictures “and there was our Kitty sleeping in their main bedroom”
Ha ha! We’ve had that! Our next door neighbour was advertising their house and one of our cats was on the sofa and another was curled up in the sun in the garden
No photo, but last night Guest Cat got irked with me and tried to stick a claw into me. I have very thick skin and the claw got stuck without doing any damage. This morning she has just about forgiven me for being Unnatural.
The hunter waits, motionless, silent, aware that her quarry must eventually break cover and leave the sanctuary. Her patience is infinite, her focus unwavering.
Well, I guess the look I’m best known for is Blue Steel.
And then there’s Ferrari and Le Tigre.
Le Tigre’s a lot softer.
It’s a bit more of a catalog look.
I use it for footwear sometimes.
