Reference player board:

The restrictions for this round are:

  • You may not build canals (rail era)
  • You may not build tier 1 industries (rail era)

Reminders:

  • You must be connected to either a coal mine (belonging to any player) or the market to access coal. The connections do not need to be your link tiles.
  • Link tiles must connect to your existing network at one or both ends.
  • You may build multiple industries in the same location.
  • Railways require coal.
  • You may build one or two railways using a single action by paying one coal and £5, or two coal and £15, respectively.

@Captbnut to play.

Play Cotton Mill to build double rail (Rochdale to Oldham, Oldham to Manchester). £15, one coal from Rochdale, one coal from Oldham

Play Coal mine to build double rail (Manchester to Bolton, Manchester to Warrington & Runcorn), £15, two coal from Oldham, flip coal tile.

Change of plan: reminding myself to play with the hand I’m dealt and the board in front of me.

Play Oldham to build cotton mill for £18 +£2 iron + Rochdale coal, flipping the Rochdale coal mine.

Play Manchester to build cotton mill for £18 + £2 iron + £1 coal from Warrington & Runcorn.

£41 spent.

Over to @Chewy77

Well, well, well, seem like my two initial moves are taken…
Play Stockport to connect Bury to Manchester and Manchester to Stockport with a double rail move, using my coal in Bury, (£15) and build a iron works in Manchester using an Oldham card that is good for nothing now, the final coal from Bury (flips he mine if my count is right) for another £9.
(Crossing fingers so I don’t have to speak to my lawyers again) It is over to @GeeBizzle

That doesn’t read like something you can do. You need a Manchester or an ironworks card

I’ll hang fire. That sounds a bit off to me too.

It is within my network, looking at the rules seems legit, but I will hold fire

Okay, ignore the mine in Manchester, I will use Oldham for the first move, you will all forget that I had Stockport, and I will connect Warrington to Liverpool for a bit less money, (and I believe still my coal in Bury is the closest, so £5 and that coal instead of 7) using a Warrington & Runcorn card.

Ok so double rail to Yorkshire using my port card £15 and coal from Burnley
Then play colne and build cotton mill £14 using last coal from Burnley flipping it.

Play coal and build coal In Burnley (£7).
Play cotton and build cotton in colne (£16+£3) using coal from Burnley and iron from the market.

You got £1 back for selling coal to the market.

@Chewy77 to play

Do I have to sell to the market? I would rather keep my coal for personal use right now like a little coal goblin.

Automatic once it’s linked I’m afraid

Use a Wigan card to build a coal mine there (£8) and use a Shipyard card to get a £30 loan.

I guess as Wigan is not connected yet to anything, the coal stays there? Oh, wait, the market has been replenished, never mind.

EDIT: it should be 4 coal there, is a level 3 mine.

Edit

Play Port to double rail (Burnley to Blackburn, Blackburn to Bolton). Coal from Burnley (flip tile), coal from market (£16 total)

Play Blackburn to Build Ironworks in Blackburn (£9, plus £1 coal from market! £10 total). 5 iron go on, all sell to market for £9. Flip tile

The obvious best move for me would be to build a cotton mill and sell all three to the distant market, but I can’t do that, which is frustrating.

So: discard Colne, sell to distant market from both mills.

Discard Burnley, build rail from Bolton to Wigan, using coal from Wigan, and from Preston to Blackburn, again using coal from Wigan, for £15.
