I have just been reminded yet again of this (by Tom Gauld):
I read that one line as “Their British Invaders” two times before I actually read it correctly.
Which, you know… fair… but still.
Practically interchangeable.
This might have something to do with it…

In white, the countries that have never been invaded by Britain…
I used to wonder a long time ago when did Britain invaded the Philippines.
It turns out that they showed up during the Seven Years War between Britain and Spain. British navy and army captured Manila, but couldnt go beyond, due to stiff resistance.
Britain- essentially playing Pokemon with the world.
Man, we suck!
In all fairness, in Spain we weren’t much better. We did not colour more of the world because we did it earlier and travelling was not so advanced back then…
It would be interesting to see comparative maps for other European nations like Spain, France and the Netherlands. I suspect that the presence of other Europeans may have been a prelude to British invasions of a fair few places, and vice versa.
For a while now I’ve been going through my games on BGG and adding comments. I should have done this everytime I played a game. Because current impressions are much better than memories to write even the shortest of reviews. Even about 120 games in I still haven’t acquired the ability to align my thoughts about a game into just two or three sentences that may help someone else decide whether they want the game… about 50 rated games I still own and haven’t put on the trade list to go.
(After that I may do the rest)
I used to comment a lot (if you use the geekbuddy analysis and have me as your geekbuddy, you’ll probably notice), but now I’m just lazy
Ditto. I haven’t even been rating games lately. To say nothing of updating ratings…
Then type 4 sentences or more ![]()
I end up with paragraphs if I get heated up over a game.
Feeling pretty good! For the first time ever, I answered every question right on a CGE BGG Contest! Usually I struggle to get half of the questions right.
1 correct answer. Probably the first because I bothered to look up the cover.
I normally do ok on those, but nearly always miss 1 or 2 because of trap questions.
4/5. Not bad for a game I haven’t played.
They do have some funky questions. I actually got all of them right this time as well. Only looked up the first and third questions and guessed the others. Well, I guess the others just took some observation, as the answer to #2 is right in the picture, and the answer to #4 is at the top of the page. And #5 is just a jumble.
Once again I would like to apologise for the English language.
(Shawn, Shaun and Sean are all pronounced “Shorn”).
I think that requires at least one apology for Celtic languages too
