I did my PhD with one of the regular guests on Lateral - I’m not sure how atmospheric science would have prepared him for his subsequent career as a puzzle setter and quiz master, but he seems to be very good at it!
I was about to recommend this, even though I haven’t listened to it yet since the first episode just dropped today!
My NPR Podcasts:
- Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me
- Fresh Air (a recent interview with Guillermo del Toro was great)
Forgot to add The Infinite Monkey Cage, mixing science and comedy
I might have to take a road trip and visit

Finally! I hiking trail within my physical capabilities!
Oh, I’m sure you can get in shape. Start by circumnavigating just a quarter of your games collection…
Are you trying to kill the poor man!
I received a small parcel while I was at the gym.
I had to go around to the back door to get inside.
It contained a box. The inner box was put in a plastic bag, and spay foamed into immobility. I had rip enough of the foam away to pull the inner box out. What ever the foam is, it came apart in big chunks, which immediately started shedding little pieces that have gotten everywhere.
Edit: pictures are hard.
Where is it? Is it under one of the pumpkins?
That’s insane. What was it, that needed such ridiculous protection?
A 75 pound porcelain sculpture in shape of a sink.
I was going to guess the latest addition to your velvet Elvii collection, but oh well.
Hmm, usually it’s done the other way for that reason.
The expanding foam is sprayed into.a plastic bag to form around the piece.
For human interest stories I like to listen to Heavyweight, my wife loves This American Life and I listened to some episodes and they have very good stuff.
Serial always offers great stories.
Yeah, I was a little surprised when I opened the box, and found it glued shut with foam. I even flipped it over to see if it was better that way.
Should have ordered from timlinessmatters.com instead?
I have a GP appointment and LOTR soundtrack is on the background in the waiting room. A bit of a weird experience. Waiting for a bit, it turns out that the clinic was playing Classic FM. I didn’t know there’s a Classic FM and that LOTR is deemed to be classic enough to be in their playlist
