“Oy!” “Wut?” Just chat (The Return of)

At university one time, I was in the cs student computer lab. I realized I had forgotten my lunch, and said so out loud. My friend who was across the table from me said “don’t worry about your lunch, you forgot your pants!”

I was wearing a kilt.

A watermelon juice free kilt.

I live in Isleworth near Hounslow. There are loads of fireworks today because it’s Diwali

I’m in Leicester, which has a majority South Asian population. Half of that is Hindu, so it’s a big thing here. Add to that the piles of terraced housing and it sounds like a warzone

Also, this was totally meant to go in the things you’ve said/heard thread, but I obviously clicked the wrong place …

I see CMON has sold Cthulhu Death May Die to Asmodée.

https://corporate.asmodee.com/news/cthulhu-death-may-die-ip-and-games-now-part-of-asmodee

Feels to me like eating the seed corn, but CMON may well not feel they have any other options.

Of course!! Wondered what the fireworks were for last night. As I lived in Leicester for 2 years, you’d think I’d remember, given that it was a massive thing there

Must be an impact of the tariffs. KS exclusive companies (like CMON) must be struggling a lot.

I am surprised because the amount of debt Asmodee has. This seems bad for both companies.

Our downstairs neighbours are no trouble at all, except for on Diwali when they set off fireworks from their balcony :grimacing:

My current and previous employers have Diwali-based activities, but I didn’t know fireworks were a thing, but then I live in a wildfire-prone area with heavy restrictions on fireworks.

Decided to have a “food holiday” and pay for fancy meals this year instead of travel and hotels.

Ate a lot of fancy stuff. Was good.

Went to Hawksmoor for the first time and had Devon crab and then steak, went to the Swan restaurant at Shakespeare’s Globe, went to the opening day of DOMA in Sydenham which serves Macedonian burek, and to Bohemia House in West Hampstead for day 3 of their “Goulash Fest” for venison goulash. Went to Scandi Kitchen and had meatballs and lingonberry jam. Went to “Napoli on the Road” in Richmond, home to officially the 5th best pizza in the world, and had pizza. Went to Locatelli at the National Gallery and had barley risotto with cuttlefish ragout, lemon and parsley oil. Went to Plaquemine Lock in Angel and had proper Louisiana gumbo, and “Honey and Smoke” near Warren Street for amazing shakshuka.

Can definitely recommend a restaurant holiday.

Spam: “How CEOs are using AI to cut invoice processing time by 80%”
Me: “Well there’s your problem: in any organisation big enough to have a CEO he should have no contact at all with invoice processing.”

Unfortunately, small business owners are calling themselves “CEO” likely because that’s the observable pattern within the (very strange) world of VC startups.

I think the only way to successfully do this is to send Terminators to threaten the large corps who are deliberately delaying paying you.

There’s a legal equivalent. Once the large corporation is clearly deliberately not paying, apply to the country court for a winding-up order, since they’re clearly trading while insolvent. They’ll pay up in preference to paying for a barrister to justify deliberate non-payment.

I could do with some podcast recommendations please. I’ve been out of the loop for 3 years.

Not necessarily (or probably not) boardgames, but anything interesting or funny.

I get my NFL fix twice a week, and I really like Off Menu.

I think I’d like The Rest is History

I like food, comedy, nerdy facts and cricket. I like No Such Thing as a Fish, The Comedian’s Comedian & The Private Eye podcast and I loved The West Wing Weekly.

I will always recommend Cautionary Tales, You’re Dead to Me, Legacy, and Curious Cases

I also recommend Mark Steel’s In Town

I would recommend “A Podcast of Unnecessary Detail” but it’s a bit sporadic. There are 24 episodes to listen to though.

Can always recommend Ken and Robin Talk About Stuff

If in an odd historical mood, and open to a completed podcast, I strongly recommend Hold My Order Terrible Dresser, involving history nerd coverage of the sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati

Lateral is a very good quiz/puzzle podcast hosted by Tom Scott. Also, a lot of the guests tend to have their own shows that are often worth checking out.
