Does Discourse still have a 10k limit on posts in threads?

I think there was rounding going on. I don’t think it got to 10k just shows that number on the preview

It’s just hit 10002, so I assume the reaper will come along at some point.

I’m so proud of our community that our top-replied thread is about playing games.

My count on the scrollbar says 9881, why is that?

The hard limit does not include, for whatever reason, deleted posts. The thread-count rounding shown may or may not include deleted posts, but, after a visual inspection, it does seem to include them.

The scrollbar, on the other hand, seems to reflect only non-deleted posts. It says 9881 on the bar, but the latest reply in that thread has an id=10007

EDIT:

Technical Summary

Magic, or something similar

Thread count is in Base 9?

The next 2 are Wordle (really?)
And „To play games we need to buy games“

The 10th one that just didn‘t fit my tablet screen is the Twilight Imperium forum game oO

My partner tells me this isn’t actually true and that you can play games that you’ve already bought multiple times.

I reported her to the police.

I suspect that deleted posts don’t slow down thread rendering, but obviously you don’t ever reuse an ID.

Yeah, and I suspect the post count shown where it shows 10.0k is probably based on a MAX(id) function in the SQL integration. It doesn’t actually care how many records there are and bases that count by whatever the highest post id in the thread, which is also likely indexed for maximum performance.

And by “in the shelf” I do of course mean “on top of that pile of boxes which there isn’t room for in the shelf”.
