Some lego crime news:
https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/18/us/lego-theft-pasta-california.html
Summary: dude bought lego kits, opened them up, replaced the plastic with bags of pasta, and returned them. $34,000 worth of lego…
For a while I thought about using a Lego subscription service (e.g. www.bauduu.de) and for my birthday I got a gift card for them.
They have different subscription levels, I went for the premium one (biggest sets and as many as I want) because I want to try it for 4 months to make a decision if I like it. I feel the standard 1 set a month rate is more reasonable though.
You have to make a wishlist with at least 10 items and then they send you one. You do whatever you want and send it back to get a new one. My wishlist is basically mostly full with big vehicles, historic buildings and Star Wars stuff.
My first Lego set was this Porsche 911. I am not a big car fan but I think the 911 looks just cool.
Some more pictures, not sure why but I got an error message before:
Building it was a lot of fun and all parts were there even though I had to look for some a long time before. You just get all pieces in one plastic bag, so sorting them in advance by colors or something else is highly recommended. I didn’t do it but will do so in the future.
Well now to my second Lego set, the Land Rover Defender. Looks really cool and we will fly to Iceland this June, so great coincidence:
Well, this is the picture of the Lego website. Why? Because the experience was highly frustrating and I sent it back.
This time I sorted all pieces (over 2300!) by colors, took me an hour.
Very early on, around page 10 of the 306 manual pages I was missing a part. I spent a long time looking for it, going through all black pieces, taking every piece out and putting it somewhere else to find the one missing. It wasn’t there, so I contacted the company and they sent it. All good.
So I continued and shortly after another black piece was missing. I couldn’t believe it, well I started an email draft asking for this piece too. But it was part of the motor, so I thought I continue working on the next page with a different area.
Now I had the problem I couldn’t find the pieces in the right color. Instead of beige they were red. According to the manual’s inventory list these should be only in beige not red. Okay I used them, but the tools (pickaxe, hammer, axe) all looked weird with red handles instead of wooden ones. But as I continued I found the same problem again. I was on page 26 now, less than 10% and I had 5 instances where a piece (or to be more exact all pieces of the same kind) was a different color which also made my presorting pretty useless. Not to speak of the looks of the car.
So I edited my email’s draft, listed all the problems I faced and turned it into a complaint. The next day I sent all the stuff back.
So 2 sets, 1 was great, 1 was a dud. Let’s see about number 3.
My dad has a subscription to a similar service in the UK. He seems to really enjoy it - he gets to build as many Lego sets as he likes, and my parents’ house isn’t completely full of Lego
(my mum has had less success with curbing his paperweight collection, however)
I love the whole idea. I like building Lego but I don’t play with it anymore and I don’t want it to catch dust standing around (beside the fact that I don’t have space for it anyways). Though I have to say I kept the Porsche for some days on the living room table before I sent it back because it looked very good
. In general I find the idea very sustainable, the same Lego set sees much more use than otherwise.
Anyone interested in a (legally not Lego) brick driven TTRPG?

Funny how this appears just after One Piece aired a few “totally not lego” episodes
Was this from your subscription? ![]()
Yes, after the Land Rover Defender debacle, this one was working perfectly till the end when basically the last piece (the antenna on top of the rocket) was missing. It had over 1900 pieces.
I think that others before me were just not caring and sent it back as basically done, but I asked for the missing piece and it arrived today. Want to keep it for some days on the table before I deconstruct it and send it back.
I had some talks with customer support and learnt how it works. They weigh the bag of Legos and if it is not too much different from what it should be, they send it to the next person. If the weight is off too much (I don’t know what amount) they count every piece. If something is missing but they don’t have the exact piece in storage they put in another one with the same measurements.
Which leads to a funny situation about my rocket. The 3 astronauts with their space probe should have an American flag.
This one:
In my bag I didn’t it, there was only one which looks like an old computer console from the 80/90s, I remember having it in my space ships as a kid. But it has the same measurements.
But not a flag, so I mentioned it in my email when I asked for the other missing piece. So they sent me a replacement which has the same measurements but is completely clear. Not usable as American flag either
. Kinda funny.
Curious what I will get next!
Feels like they could have just done “totally is Lego” after their recent Lego sets!
Edit: looks like One Piece is getting a Lego animated non-canon miniseries, like the ones they do for Star Wars
I need to buy the rest… I just don’t know where to put it. The Going Merry is sailing along on my desktop computer and the little hut is inside of the case… behind the window.
Baratie looks great. But it is very big…
Still working on our Enterprise 1701D, but…
I want to build this!
Background is beautiful!
It is done!
Not as many hidden little things… just the shuttle bay and that dedication plaque with a typo that I don’t even remember where it went or how to reveal it.
Still a deeply satisfying build, can’t wait to move it to a more permanent placement in the home!
My next Lego set is done, the AT ST from Star Wars.
Unfortunately I had to request some parts three times all in all and I had it for a month but we were gone for two weeks on vacation. It looks and feels very cool though. Like the set a lot! Curious what I’ll get next, will send it back in a couple days. The subscription ends end of July, I would like to do 2 more sets till then.
