Leaving Earth #2

By then the needs will have changed, but we’ll see how it goes.

I can lend 5 now if you pay it me back next round, but I suspect that won’t work for you.

Nah, not to worry.

Okey doke, we’ll hire John Glenn to the team then please.

Godspeed, John Glenn.

OK, I’ll take that as end of year.

Check life support for my Vostok: Success. Pay it off with the ¤10 I kept back.

Various vessels arrive: Astérix and Obélix in Mars Cycler; Shinji, Kusanagi, Chang’e and Aleksandr Bulatovich in Inner Planets Transfer.

1963

Everyone gets ¤30.

Turn order:

  1. China - @lalunaverde
  2. Japan - yashima
  3. USA - Lordof1
  4. USSR - RogerBW
  5. France - RossM

@RogerBW

Would it be possible to have a breakdown of all the ships at IPT?

Sure.

  • Shinji - 1 probe 2 ion
  • Kusanagi - 1 probe 2 ion
  • Chang’e - 1 probe 1 Atlas
  • Aleksandr Bulatovich - 1 probe 1 ion

Reminder: these all have to manoeuvre during the owning player’s first turn this year, or they;ll be lost.

Hey @yashima what do you want for your Juno stockpile?

The Junos are not currently for sale, sorry. I haven’t quite figured out how many I need and having to reacquire some later might not be all that great.

(Shinji and Kusanagi already have big plans)

Gentle poke @lalunaverde .

Research Ion Thrusters tech and then buy 1 and launch. Pay the result. That should either leave me Y5 or Y0. I’ll end my turn for now

(1) What are you planning to launch it with? The manoeuvres to Earth Orbit aren’t :hourglass: so you can’t use the ion itself for that.

(2) your probe at IPT needs a new destination this turn not to be lost.

1.) I’ll just buy 2 instead of 1.

2.) Redirect to Mars, please

Mass 5 x Diff 4 = Thrust required 20. Use Atlas with a Thrust of 27

OK, on to @yashima.

  • Shinji wants to head towards Mercury Fly-By from IPT. This is difficulty 5 right? So to get there it will take 2 years… I can go slower right?
  • Kusanagi on the other hand is headed towards Venus Fly-by, difficulty 2 should only take 1 year.
  • I‘ll buy a pair of Saturns and I am done.

Yup, so in full:

  • Slingshot manoeuvres are fixed at the printed time.
  • No :hourglass: at all manoeuvres always take zero time (can’t use ions at all).
  • Otherwise: you have a standard :hourglass: number. “(:hourglass:)” means zero. That is at the rated difficulty.
  • If you double the difficulty, you can reduce the :hourglass: number to half (rounded up). You can do this multiple times.
  • If you want to increase the :hourglass: number to get more ion thrust, the difficulty doesn’t go down.

These craft have mass 3 and 2 ions, so 10 thrust per year. Mercury flyby is D5, so 15 total thrust needed, and Shinji can do is in 2. Venus flyby is D2, 6 total thrust needed, Kusanagi can do it in 1. Your ions are reliable.

No money remains.

@Lordof1 is up next.

First thing I shall do I offer a joint venture partnership to the Russians. Assuming you accept, do buy the whole thing for 10 or can we share it 5 and 5 now? It affects what else I do this round. @RogerBW

Absolutely we can. (Technically you spend the money, then I offer my contribution, but eh. Trust, comrade-buddy.)

I’m also contributing one Small Fuel Tank to the alliance’s stock of hardware.

@RogerBW can I bring my Soyuz back down to Earth from Earth orbit and then relaunch it in the same round?

If yes, I’m buying a Saturn, Vostok capsule, Eagle capsule, and and sticking them all together with the fuel from the Ruskies for the Starship ‘For All Mankind’. Might as well stick a probe and a Juno on it too (if they’ll fit on, apologies, I’m out at the money so hard to calculate - I’ll prioritise the Juno). Launch the whole lot along with John Glenn into Earth orbit (via low Earth orbit - ooh, might as well stick our Juno and probe on board too).

Godspeed, Comrade Glenn!

If I can’t get to Soyuz I’ll have to rethink. Possibly risk it without the Vostok but I’d rather not.

You can get the Soyuz back and relaunch it at once, no problem.

A Saturn alone can lift 5 mass to EO. Saturn lower stage plus Soyuz upper can lift 7.

Vostok [2] + Eagle [1] + fuel tank [2] can go up on the Saturn alone. Then you can add a Probe [1] + Juno [1] to launch with the Saturn+Soyuz. Assuming you’re doing that.

Money: you have 25 after starting the JV. Saturn 15, Eagle 4, Vostok 2, Juno 1, and you have a Probe already, so ¤3 left.

Saturn draw is a Success; returned to deck.
Soyuz is reliable.
FAM reaches orbit.

Any further actions this turn?
