Or causing a financial strain.
Itās always a bit of both with these things, innit? Thatās why we keep them around for a while.
Pretty much the definition of addictive/compulsive behaviour is that while you remain ignorant of the problem, you think (consciously or otherwise) it is necessary to do it to be āhappyā.
Just in today is Dream Home: 156 Sunny Street, the out of print expansion to Dream Home. I picked it up secondhand for a great price; fairly unusual to find people selling expansions and not the base games either bundled or at the same time, but fortuitous for me!
And, fortunately, Dream Home and its expansion fit nicely in the much smaller expansion box.
The expansion adds support for a 5th and 6th player, a couple of extra modules, and a solo mode. Is solo Dream Home going to change my life, with itās whopping BGG āweightā of 1.66 ā no, not in the least. But I do think it looks charming and itās a very straight-forward ātileā drafting game (where the tiles are actually cards). A Between Two Castles of Mad King Ludwig, without the Between part, and houses instead of castles, and peaceful suburbia (insanity) instead of (German Royalty) insanity.
A few more purchases lately. 6 Nimnt and Ransom Notes should go down well with the casual gaming group, and for my soloing I bought Carnival Zombie: Second Edition, Legacy of Dragonholt (a āChoose Your Own Adventureā style narrative rpg-in-a-box) and, after remininscing about games from my childhood, a 1984 copy of Pro Golf found on eBay.
Nice! I saw your addition in my Geeklist.
Zatu order arrived consisting of things Iād been looking for more cheaply at Essen and not finding.
Riftforce Beyond which fits in the base box without even removing the inlay. (The original rulebook is too big to go in the new box though.)
Furnace plus Interbellum, which just about fits in the base box with the original inlay, but Iāll probably rejig things once Iāve played it a bit more. Not a great fan of having to pull two cards from each of 12 2-4 card decks (original game) to merge with the 24 cards of the expansion but doubtless it will work.
Riftforce is pretty good. Simple rules but decent depth. Hope you enjoy
Iāve had original Riftforce for a while; I met it in prototype at UK Games Expo 2019 and backed the Kickstarter. Getting the expansion has taken a bit longer though.
Bagged, no insert, it all fits easily in the smaller box. That excited me.
Yeah, the deck construction is a hassle as the cards arenāt easily sorted. I think itās the kind of thing you can a) only re-arrange every five games or so, or b) ignore entirely (though the resulting deck may favor iron over coal, etc, so you just have to accept that going in).
I love Furnace, and I bought the expansion but havenāt played it yet, Sounds a bit fiddley.
Hmm, maybe a candidate for a forum game?
A post was split to a new topic: Dice Tower West (Las Vegas)
If you do, please @ me. Iām usually jumping directly into existing threads and jumping directly to other threads and usually miss anything new until itās well populated.
Same for me. Iād love to try out Furnace. Itās one I was intrigued by after Mattās review, but always felt it was just a little to pricey for something Iām just intrigued by to actually purchase.
I think I need to reinstate my game-buying moratorium, and possibly block Travel Games on my phoneā¦

My copy of castles of burgundy arrived today which is good as after 12 games of Ra over 5 days I think I need a break from it. Too much of a good thing.
I won a copy of Ulterior Design ā a game about which I currently know next to nothing; but the theme tickles me (as does the title), so maybe Iāll be able to convince my partner to give it a try.
Well what a lovely weekend ā I won another game today!
This time the deluxe edition of Dreadful Meadows plus the Tricks For Treats expansion (all seeming very appropriate theme-wise for the impending Halloween).
Ticket to ride legacy is on the way!
