The other three boxes this size are Mystery Box 1, Mystery Box 2, and Terrain Box.
Then there is a tube labelled DO NOT OPEN MAJOR SPOILERS WITHIN, a small box labelled Armoury (I’ve opened that: it’s plastic arms and weapons for all the models so you can swap them out as you change your loadout), and another small box labelled You May Open This Box.
I could not resist Rolling Realms, a game made by Jamey Stegmaier, featuring all the Stonemaier games. I’m not the biggest Stonemaier fan, the couple that I own are on the sell pile, but I thought this would be fun.
Well, there was another garage sale at our FLGS’ other location on Saturday, so we went. In retrospect, not the best idea, as it wiped my wife out completely. It was BRUTALLY hot, parking was abysmal, there was lots of construction and the sidewalk was very uneven (wife is using a walker at the moment). Staff is as friendly as ever and store is at least as well stocked as the one close to us, at least!
BUT we both got some games that looked interesting and were absurdly low-priced (they were all at least 50% off).
I got:
Honey Buzz
Click Clack Lumberjack
Ice Team
My wife got:
Villainous
Detective
The LA Crimes expansion for Detective
A few educational/developmental and children games for when she’ll start volunteering at the school where she worked before the… unpleasantness.
A very good haul, but we’re not going back to that location until she’s cured.
Five Tribes (plus expansions) been a while since I got a nice light/medium weight game, and I bloody love mancala mechanisms. Now the expansions are back in print and in the sales, it seemed a good time.
Sakura Arms - 2 player card battler is an easy sell to my TCG friends and only 20mins so we can jam a game before games night. Appreciate that each set is standalone, so you can easily set up to 3 games up side by side. Big thumbs up! The art is a little too far for me, but I’ve chosen to keep everything in the least problematic art box.
Ark Nova Another sales purchase. Seemed good, look forward to it.
Running errands today got me dangerously close to FLGS and since I was also looking for a present for someone–friend’s kid is turning 18 and expressed interest in pen&paper rpgs and how could I not get them something?–I had to pay FLGS tax
I got Riverside after also waffling about Get on Board and Crash Octopus. One of the designers of Riverside is also part of the group that designed Revive which is currently my most anticipated SPIEL release. I already played a round and for a game that’s only having me make a few checkmarks–not even numbers!–it’s surprisingly interesting. I swear one day I will stop buying (flip|roll) & (write|whatevers) but apparently that day was not today.
PS: the RPG I bought is “New Hong Kong Story” … it seemed like a small enough book to get started quickly and it reminded me just a bit of Feng Shui which I adored way back when… obviously I watched Quins video on RPGs after I bought it.
Sunset over Water Pocket Edition is on pre-order. I have the pocket Herbaceous and think it’s a nicely made package, this is their next pocket project.
Unfortunately if you’re in the UK, the postage is the same as the game AND you’ll have to pay your own VAT on top when it arrives.
