Last game you bought?

I got scout by oink. It has special two player rules. My ears are steaming.

Play with more people. Don’t judge the game by the solo mode. Even though Space Base doesn’t even have one, the solo mode is not showing Bad Company’s best side. And maybe don’t think about Space Base too much while playing. This is after all a different game.

It’s not on my sell-pile (yet) b/c of a) high player count and b) it was more fun with 2 than as a solo, c) after my partner calmed down a bit from shouting how he hated the game, he even suggested we take it to game night, so maybe it has earned another chance. (but it’s not all that far from the sell-pile as evidenced by my acquisition of the Pluto expansion for Space Base which can be seen above)

Maybe there is something to be said for Bad Company changing up the interaction. Because the leader gets to choose how to pair up the dice and thus gives the followers on his turn different options and is able to influence that way what options they do NOT get to take–this is not possible in Space Base where the whole of the interaction is in buying a card someone else might have wanted from the market.

Ah, the conundrum of 2 player only games…

I got my count of those below 10 now. Most of them never see the table…

Bought Nicaea, Westward Rails, and Dual Gauge: Denmark and England & Wales Maps from Second Chance Games, which is the vendor for Hollandspiele stuff in Europe.

I am particularly interested on Nicaea.

Definitely happy to give this a try.

Witchstone - ok, it’s a Knizia, well he co-designed it apparently, which seems a little unusual. Anyway, SUSD gave it a positive review.

I like it. It’s a really nice game to get to grips with. I think the games are generally very tight which is a bad or good thing.

Dice porn alert!

My copy of Endangered has arrived and I’m looking forward to play it over the weekend. It looks gorgeous and the wooden animals are great but I especially love the dice, which are some of the best I’ve seen in a game for a long while. 16mm and feel good in the hand, plus the jade(?) green and purple ones have such a beautiful colour to them.

The New Species expansion is on the way too, so more to admire in that I am sure.

That’s a cooperative game, right? With dice? Don’t show my partner  But do tell us how it plays.

Yes: cooperative for 1 to 5 players, although if playing solo you play as two character roles. Base game comes with 5 roles and 2 animals to save - tigers and sea otters - but the New Species expansion adds one or two more characters and 6 (well, 7 as the jaguars and tapirs are paired together) more animals to protect. Lovely production values definitely so hope the gameplay is as solid.

16 mm dice just feel luxurious, better than the 12 mm standard ones.

After a very long hunt it looks like I managed to source two copies of Space Cadets: Away Missions at the same time. One is still new in shrink but the other is available via no-cash trade so that’s the option I’m taking. Clearing out a couple of RPG rarities to make it happen, but I’m ok with that. I’ll be grabbing it this afternoon.

Having felt satiated for ages, this weeks SVWAG got me doing my first purchase for months. Citta-Stato has now entered my collection. I really like the designers previous game and this seems to be an equivalent length and weight to Callimala so that sounds excellent.

In an attempt to try some solo gaming given my current life arrangements I thought I’d try out Imperium Legends ago, so that was in the order too.

I also bought citto stato for the same reason. I want something else to fill that Orleans itch without buying Orleans or something that takes as long to set up/play as Orleans.

I can’t take my eyes off that one die that’s orientated differently from the rest… you monster!

My apologies. Is this better?

Only joking

Okay. Okay. This is a gentle request for help.

I currently have a copy of the new print of Hero Quest set aside at work. It retails for $169.99, so I’ll be able to get it for about $160CAD.

However, I remember the rules. They’re awful. It’s super dice heavy, big into the randomness, and no fully co-op option… one player must play the evil… Zorgon? Zargan? The evil wizard trying to rule the world.

But gosh does that box mash my nostalgia button hard. I played weeks worth of the original with friends. Those were some of my very first (poorly) painted models. It just… feels… comforting.

But I shouldn’t buy it, right? I don’t have the money for it regardless (hence why it’s in my reserved pile as I consider the financial ramifications of $160CAD for a game I’m almost positive sucks). I should just save that money for an Outer Rim expansion or the next Descent expansion or whatever, right? I definitely don’t have time to paint the minis, even to my humble standards…

I should just pass on this, right? I’m gonna pass on it. I should. I should? What if they don’t make another print run and I miss out… I should…

Gaaaaaahhhh…
