I guess being president of Madras isn’t very stressful
And you’ll have a governer this turn to make it even easier
Hah, governors can cause trouble too…
(Also, Madras has the best trade potential now)
The box on madras is opium?
Yes, it is.
(The original icon was more obviously opium, but the printer noted there was a risk of the entire print run ending up as landfill if that icon got noticed by the authorities, and Wehrlegig understandably chose not to take that risk)
@GeeBizzle asked for a die roll:
d6: 4
with some additional text due to spamming
The stress of all those boats is clearly tiring me out.
@COMaestro asked for a die roll:
2d6: 4 + 2 = 6
Being a Director is stressful, especially after seeing all the craziness that happened in India.
President of Bengal sees unrest and has his secretary simply mark it on his itinerary and has another cup of tea.
@lalunaverde asked for a die roll:
President of Bombay d6: 6
Spooked by the chaos and the decline of the Delhi Sultanate, the President of Bombay took the first ship back to England.
Lots of places to retire to it seems
Now we deal with retirements. Starting with the former Chairman (and ending, in this case) each player chooses what quality of estate (“prize”) a Pensioner is going to retire with. (Note that there aren’t just 5 estates in England, and retiring fantastically wealthy people aren’t sharing the same home; each space indicates quality of retirement, not a single location.) Any pensioners left over after resolving this are out of luck and return to supply: wherever they retire to isn’t impressive enough to register at this scale.
After resolving this, whoever spent the most money on retirements gets to pick one card from the London Season display to claim, peeking at any available blackmail cards. You don’t get more than one, regardless of how many pensioners retired, you aren’t eligible if you spent nothing, and if the cards run out you get nothing. So, back to @lalunaverde
One gets to retire on a somewhat lavish £8 (£2) country house.
The other can sleep on the gutter (not sure if I want to have that castle, which is a potential tax hit throughout the game)
4 more VPs for the Sykes family, though this does come with an upkeep cost. The former chairman gains a blackmail card, the London Season display is replaced.
On to the Family phase: back again to @lalunaverde for first family action, and everyone else (strictly speaking this is done in player order, clockwise from former chairman, but feel free to say what you are doing early, with or without conditional changes based on what earlier players in sequence do). @RossM @Whistle_Pig @GeeBizzle @COMaestro
Don’t forget that a repeat action can be done twice, and you now get a free writer. It may be worth noting that although the Director of Trade (COMaestro/Walsh) chooses the next President of Bombay from writers or officers in the Bombay presidency, the nepotism rule will apply, meaning that he can’t choose a writer from his own family unless all other eligible candidates consent to it. Currently the only two eligible candidates are from the Walsh family.
Should be noted I’m planning on buying two more shipyards as part of a proposal to open up trade with China. More on this when I wake up
I should probably cover trade with China then.
Position opens when Director of Trade does a successful trade mission for that purpose, or a specific law is passed. Position is immediately filled by any writer selected by the Chairman. To trade, ships are required and dedicated to that purpose (but count as being in East sea for storms). Unlike other trade routes, the odds of success does not rely on money spent, and no money is spent: the number of dice rolled is the number of ships. The income is £4 per opium icon in company-controlled regions. Thematically, the differences with regular trade represent the Company outsourcing the opium trade to smugglers, auctioning off the opium in India.
So, the question for the company is how many upkeep-requiring ships are worth the potential income.
Officer + bonus Writer in Madras
2 ships + bonus writer in Bengal please.
Interesting.
