Board members, if I can direct you to the room with the big map and the little brooms…
It is my intention to send officers and regiments to both Bombay and bengal this turn.
In regard to Bombay I suggest a defensive force against the planned invasion.
However I suggest money is invested in Bengal to pay local mercenaries and look to Plun… secure the area.
This opens up the trade routes, lets us place a governor to raise regiments locally and provides two additional sources of opium to “trade” with our Chinese “friends”
I thought it was best discussing now whilst we await the result of the chair election…
(The British Empire. Consistently terrible.)
Please note that the Company does not really care about and isn’t significantly affected by Indian invasions of regions that aren’t held by the company - there is no effect on trade. Successful rebellions are bad for trade, closing orders, and successful invasions of/rebellions in company-held regions are of course very bad.
If Maratha invades sovereign Bombay, company regiments there will not be involved in the defence. On successful invasion, a new empire is formed, based in Maratha, and it’s likely the empire will look to expand further.
Oh! So when are regiments used for defence?
When someone attacks a Company-held region, whether that’s a rebellion or an invasion.
So, a leader event is drawn for a company-held region - that’s a rebellion, could happen anytime. Or the elephant moves fully into a company-held region and a crisis resolves - that’s a rebellion. Or the elephant ends up on the border of a company-held region and the crisis resolves - that’s an invasion. Or a foreign invasion occurs.
Oh, also, whenever any invasion or rebellion targets a company-held region, all other company-held regions have to defend against rebellions with strength equal to unrest. Currently there is no unrest in Madras, but things like over-taxing or failed rolls by a governor can generate it.
Still may be worthwhile seizing control of Bengal to open some more trade routes and a nice two boxes of inconspicuous goods.
I’m thinking it might be worth investing hard for mercenaries in both regions to gain control
I’d support that. Think our fleets at sea are probably sufficient so happy to see the shipping passed by this time.
The Walsh family will Seek Shares.
OK, that’s an action that does depend on play order, so we’ll have to see whether @Whistle_Pig does the same, first. The shares available are £2, £3, £3, £4, with the more expensive ones being first in queue to become shares, and only 1 of those will become a share this turn (the £5 spot is full). You forgot your free writer, or you don’t want one?
Oh, I did forget. Writer in Bengal please.
An officer + writer in Bombay please
(I just noted that I shouldn’t have increased Company standing the second time in the Revenue phase: 7 pounds in dividends did not exceed the 12 pounds expectations, so I undid that)
OK, so safe to assume COMaestro pays 2 pounds on the stock exchange.
At the end of the family phase, both family members on the stock exchange become new Company shares, and the Company debt is decreased by 2 to 0.
We now move onto our first Hiring phase. We’ll deal with these in order, but it may be worth noting who is eligible for each position for negotiations over the Chairman position.
President of Bombay is writers/governors associated with Bombay, chosen by Director of Trade (subject to nepotism), and Governor of Madras is writers/officers associated with Madras, chosen by the President of Madras (nepotism irrelevant this time).
Chairman election requires a majority vote from current Company shares:
Sykes, Benyon, Walsh: 2 each
Paxton, Hastings: 1 each
So you need the backing of 5 shares to get the Chairman position. If everyone fails to reach that total, @lalunaverde gets to pick the Chairman, and is free to pick any share, including his own.
So, over to you all @RossM @Whistle_Pig @COMaestro @GeeBizzle
Happy to support @Whistle_Pig in return for the governorship of Madras
It wouldn’t be in the spirit of the law if I ask one of my kin to be elected as Chairman, so I am happy to give my 2 votes to someone else. I would like to know who are the most potential candidates and why they are the most deserving (cough cough)
Have some snuff for that cough
As a minority shareholder I’ll let others make their case but I’m happy for my vote to be bought.
The Walsh family could be persuaded to support just about anybody.
@RossM vote you for Chairman in change of military support?
