I am halfway vaccinated as of today. Time to see what the side effects are. Currently, throat feels a little weird, like nasal drainy. But I am used to that from allergies.
Can I ask what vaccine? Pfizer??
Nope, Moderna. They have set up a drive through vaccination site in an airport parking lot. However, it is a little clunky. You make an appointment online. Ours was at 10:45 AM. We got there around 10:15 and were waved into one of 9 lines and proceeded to sit there, moving one car length every few minutes, until maybe 11:45 when we reached the front.
There, we verified our appointments using our phone number and birth dates, then moved on to another line for 15+ minutes until waved into one of 6 lines tonactually get the vaccine. We were vaccinated at 12:28, after which we were put into another line to wait for 15 minutes before we could leave to ensure we did not experience any immediate allergic or otherwise negative reaction.
So, 10:15 to 12:45. Now admittedly, one of the ladies we spoke to said they were expecting to administer 5k doses today, so they were very busy, but it seems like the process should be more streamlined.
Now I get to look forward to doing it again in 4 weeks. I will get there earlier next time. And considering the line stretched about twice as long when we left as it did when we arrived, I might try to get there for the moment they open.
He says this about 15 times through the book - if this is the ONLY thing you do (and remember to look at them occasionally!) this will make your life so much easier. I really like GtD - I’m not great at keeping up but I find it very soothing to know that I’m not trying to remember everything. Mainly cos I have a dreadful memory at the best of times. The attitude of ‘just work out what the next step is, as minor as it might be, and do that rather than worrying about the rest’ really helps me. You often find you’ve completed the next 5 steps without really thinking about it then.
In terms of paying attention, maybe use a modified version of the Pomodoro technique. Set a timer for x no of minutes and say you will work for that number of minutes and you will take a break. Start small with just 5-10 minutes. (I realise now that this has pretty much all been said above)
The problem with lists is the act of putting a thing on a list triggers something in the brain akin to actually doing the thing. This is not a reason to not create a list, but to-do lists don’t always help to get things done.
Thats why the regular check in with the list is important to remind yourself that you haven’t done it yet!
Do not underestimate my ability to look at a list, get anxiety over not completing it, then hiding it from view again.
I have found the best cure for my (ADHD-adjacent) procrastination is to mentally index all of the tasks I need to perform and then distract myself with a good puzzle (videogame, sudoku, etc). My subconscious mind is much better at prioritizing and deconflicting tasks than my active mind.
Of course, this also leads to, sometimes, hours-and-hours-and-hours of procrastination while waiting for the mulling-it-over-in-the-back-of-my-brain to pay dividends.
Thursday, my husband started coughing. Friday, he had a fever. Saturday, I took him for a drive through Covid test.
Sunday morning, I started coughing. Sunday evening, my temperature was going up and this morning, I have an actual fever.
We got his test results early this morning. It’s Covid.
We tried so hard to be careful. Take care of yourselves and each other.
Best wishes to you both!
Take care.
Best wishes
Get lots of rest and drink lots of fluids. Keep your strength up. Hope you feel better soon
Take care - best wishes!
Best wishes to both of you, hope you get better soon.
Do you have an idea where you might have caught it? Over here I keep hearing that at the big picture level nobody knows anymore where the majority of people catch it. This is something I find rather scary…
Best wishes for a full recovery. And thanks for thinking of the rest of us when you’ve had such distressing news.
Get well soon!
Take it easy and I hope you and your husband recover quickly, and fully.
Heres hoping for a fast recovery.
All the best of lucks! Get well soon!
Look after yourselves.
