How are you today?

I have no detailed information. But it seems to me that someone is likely unable to actually excel in a role like that in the first 12 months.

I was just getting ready to post this exact pic.

Its a problem with ministers all over - they just get their head round some of the issues, maybe start having thoughts etc and they are moved on. And that’s the good ones

Yeah, we read that San Sebastian has 200 rainy days in the year

We had some help from locals to find good places outside of the tourist route in Rome. It always feels a good sign when you are in a place where nobody speaks English

I loved the pinxtos in Bilbao and San Sebastian and would really love to get back to try the food again :yum:

Just remind me, is San Sebastian one of the cities where you get a pintxo just by ordering a drink? Or you have to order them separately? I believe you pay them separately there. Other towns in the Basque region (Alava, I believe)* serve you a pintxo just by ordering a drink. That always feels great.

  • And other towns in Spain, as well. Definitely many bars in Madrid used to.

Looks up the difference between pintxos and tapas

Everything I am seeing is delicious.

I believe pintxo (which is pincho in Spanish) may be an Anglicism or Gallicism coming from “pinch”.

Tapas come form the tradition that started to cover drinks (tapa means lid) to avoid flies or other insects falling inside (moths specially at night due to candlelight) your wine or beer. Some taverns and bars, as far back as the XVII century, apparently, started serving some food and snacks on those “lids” which were normally small saucers to entice customers to stay longer, return, or drink more if the food was a bit spicy or salty.

This led to a culture of “let’s try small portions of different recipes, and share between us all”.

But there is no actual difference between them.

You have to order them separately. I heard they got pretty expensive over the last few years too.

Did consider not posting this in case it came across as a moan about the NHS but I need to have a moan.

Had an appointment with my GP at the end of June to get referred to a Physio. It took until the end of August to get a telephone consultation.

At that appointment they decided that I would need to see a Physio in person.

That appointment was meant to happen today, except the Physio is off ill. They have no more appointments locally this year so I’m back on a waiting list, unless I’m willing to travel a great distance and even then they’re not much sooner.

Almost told them not to bother.

Physio has been so helpful to me in the past.
It sucks having had the appointment and then having to wait for a long time again. :persevere:

It occurs to me it’s well over a year since I saw someone at my GP about this. To be fair I was meant to follow up after a month which became six so not entirely on them, but it has been frustratingly slow.

At least my Cubital Tunnel issue seems to be finally on the mend after 2 years so I’m not totally falling apart.

It’s not just the NHS, I’m in the US, and have what’s basically the best possible health insurance (it’s taken nearly everywhere, out of pocket costs are low, little need for a referal for a specialist, …). I did something to my back in early June. I was able to see a sports medicine doctor next day, who
gave me steriods, muscle relaxants, and pain stuff, and a referal to phsyical therapy. (which is physio to you). In the US there are lots of chain PT clinics, which always have capacity for new patients, but they largely suck – not enough individualized attention, and their good therapists go work better places, so the staffs tend to be inexperienced because they’re new. Clinics that are better are usually attached to hospital orthopedic departments, sports med, or surgery, and have limited capacity for outside patients. I couldn’t get an appointment anywhere worth going to for months. WE have a friend who’s a PT at a hospital clinic, and she sent me a text at 11:20 one morning after only a couple seeks – “can you make an 1130 appointment?”. Since i work from home a mile away, I could. Once i got seen, finding a slot for doing the following appointments was possible (largely because I could take them whenever there was a spot). But since we missed the begining acute phase, we never had a good understanding of what I’d injured exactly, which means the work to prevent it is not as clear. (but for low back injuries, there’s lots of overlap in treatment, so it’s not as important as it could be for other things.)

In the last place I lived I needed a physio referral and as much as my GP in that town sucked, once I got a referral it was only a matter of weeks before I was seeing a physio monthly at a place right by my work.

I still work at the same place, but since I now live in a different town 5 miles away and across a county border, that convenient physio isn’t one of the ones on the list.
