How are you today?

Ouch, sorry to hear that. Sounds like it was really close to the root…

Damn, that sucks. Especially since kids aren’t always kind to other kids who are “different.”

I have a scar in my right eye (doesn’t affect my vision) that I’ve had as long as I can remember, kids were very interested in how I got it. Haha. Don’t remember if they ever actively teased me about it, though, so hopefully at worst they just get questioned.

You actually hit the nail on the head, one of my fears.

I had an email from our disability services liaison we’re we talked about it.

There is a thing that isn’t often spoke of, but people are nicer to small “cute” kids. As kids who are different get older, people in the community (public) as they get less “cute”. Less forgiving of behaviors out side the norm.

For the record my kids are beautiful, gapped tooth smile and all.

But the thought of ANYONE giving him a any issues over it, my mom heart both rages and weeps.

When I was a small kid I had two relatively prominent front teeth before they could correct them with braces.

But there were some kids calling me a rabbit because of them. Nothing too bad but I still remember that :person_shrugging:

Yeah, kids kinda suck that way. Our kiddo’s teeth were kind of like that, too, to the point they even angle forwards a bit. Now there’s just the one, of course. And I can’t see him handling orthodontia, which is bad because he has that and a heck of an overbite as well.

First time my parents ever took me to a dentist, he looked in my mouth for like one second before telling them I would need braces someday, he did braces, but he would not touch mine and I was gonna need a high level specialist. Yay for massively messed up teeth.

"Okay, I really have to finish reading Cambridge for class… gosh it’s a slog… but I have an assignment on it due on Thursday. Gotta… oh, hey, a few Battletech cards I should put away. Hmm, my current system of organization is by the release date of the box, but maybe I should do it by tonnage. Oh, and then I can separate it into pilots-by-tonnage and mechs-by-tonnage.

Ha. Pilots-by-tonnage. Pilots don’t weigh a tonne… except yo mamma! I’m hilarious.

Okay, that took an hour, but that’s okay! Everything sorted! Now, to finish reading Cambridge and to learn why the English should be applauded for wanting to continue slavery… oh, hey, I didn’t open the new Alpha Strike box! There are probably more pilot and mech cards in there… why am I organizing the Alpha Strike cards? I don’t play Alpha Strike… well, I guess this way I can remember when mechs are what tonnage… okay, I should do that. THEN I’ll be finished.

Okay! Only thirty minutes for that… oooh, there’s a short story that comes in the Alpha Strike box! I wonder if it’s a Stackpole?.. ah, it’s not. Too bad. Well, maybe it will be as good as a Stackpole…

Okay, that was pretty good. And short! Only took me thirty minutes. Right, now to finish Cambridge and to find out what happens to Olumide-Thomas-David. Just because he married a white woman I’m sure he will be fine. They’ll both be fine, right? Let’s find out!.. or I could finish reading the Battletech Total War rulebook…"

EDIT: Olumide-Thomas-David-Cambridge… Anna (his white wife) didn’t survive past the page I had stopped at to write this post.

Man, colonial-era literature is a trip

This sounds terrifyingly familiar… Except swap battletech cards for sorting out my maths trade wants list and colonial-era literature for answering a coursework question which is literally phrased as “what do you do when you do what you do?”

Survived my first teaching session in 3 years yesterday, with decent feedback, so that was nice. I’m currently scratching my head over my assignment, which involves recommending targeted activities for specific language issues (for the TESOL folks here, it’s helping a German speaker master /w/).

Today we had a nice New Year / pre-anniversary Nandos* thanks to a gift voucher, called all parents, and went to the gym, so I’m feeling pretty good. Some actual Chinese food will follow later in the week because there’s no dine-in places where we live and takeaway for Spring Festival felt a bit lacklustre.

Whatever it is, you would have gotten away with it if it wasn’t for those meddling kids!

Stinking headache, drinking Guinness , Cardiff Bay (my third capital of the day, for reasons). Playing 6 Nimmt on BGA with randoms has lifted the gloom a lot (except for that last game). Thank goodness for boardgames!

Are you hanging around in Cardiff?

No. Meeting tomorrow morning then off to Bristol for a flight back to Edinburgh early evening. It’s a jet set lifestyle this …

Had one of the most demoralizing phone calls that I have ever experienced yesterday. Our kids’ school principal called because our older kid had to be restrained a couple of times due to behaviors. Apparently he was talking about kicking other people, making them bleed, then actually slapped a staff member. He ran into a couple of classrooms, yelling and knocking things around, and kept trying to run for the school exit. When they finally got him back to his classroom using a little toy, he seemed to be calming down, but then started throwing toys at other kids and staff, got up on a table and smacked at the hanging light fixtures, pulled paper and posters off of the walls, straightening the staples that held them in and put them in his mouth. Just a barrage of meltdown behaviors that we have seen in smaller samples before, but nothing like this onslaught.

He’s not suspended or anything, but it makes us very concerned for his safety at school, and of those around him.

Ouch, sound like quite the crisis. I hope things get better for all of you…

Wow - that sounds awful for you guys. And for him I guess, considering whatever must be triggering those behaviours. Hope everything works out/calms down.

@COMaestro got a call from the principal yesterday.

I am paraphrasing, not much sleep
Something occurred on the bus last Tuesday, that she agrees was not appropriate physical contact. We will see the tape later today. Won’t really know what extent till we do.
It is going to transportation HR, since it’s a bus issue.

Before the behavior kiddo asked to go home (they did not call me).

I’m sure all of you know how we are feeling, these are our children, they are disabled children, who can’t tell us if people hurt them.
