Honestly yes, little set up, simple logging in, only host needs to install software, an actual privacy policy.
Utterly recommended, especially if you have the ability to run your own server. But even if you don’t, in my experience it’s better audio/video quality as well as having nobody stealing your personal data.
(If you use the public meet.jit.si, nobody needs to install software at all.)
Reading this it reminds me of when I was in Japan for a study abroad during the 4th. The Japanese tutors wanted to celebrate with us so fireworks were obtained and off to the beach.
Like 4 police vehicles showed up. It was across the street from a gas station.
And my father tells stories about, when he was a teenager, having bottle rocket fights at the only gas station in town. Literally hiding behind gas pumps while the other team tried to hit you with bottle rockets.
Have I mentioned it’s a small miracle that I’m alive?
Never used Zoom - my employer forbids it on security grounds - but Jitsi is excellent.
We’re on Skype for business at work and for most calls we don’t use video.
Can’t say I really feel the need for it and means I don’t have to make myself presentable
I’ve used a mix of Zoom and Discord for general chats but Discord doesn’t play nicely with my kitbashed webcam.
Dad died yesterday. Mostly I feel lost.
Deepest sympathies. I’m so sorry for your loss.
It’s also more polite when I’m playing on my phone or on my personal computer (I refuse to do work on anything other than my work laptop).
I am terribly sorry for your loss.
Oh, so sorry, that’s sad to hear, my condolences.
You have my deepest condolences.
I’m very sorry to hear that. My deepest condolences to you and all the people his life touched.
I’m sorry. Take care of yourself and your loved ones
My sympathies.
Sorry to hear about this, mate.
Sorry to hear that mate. Mine died a few years ago and it is quite a wrench.
I’m sorry to hear that I think that’s quite a normal way to feel, and I hope you have people close by (physically or virtually) to support you.
I’m so sorry.
I am so sorry, I lack the words. Losing a parent no matter how old we are is a deeply sad break in our lives.
