Haven’t tried this one but recently caught my eye. For some reason I thought it was a bad async choice but on reading the rules seems it should work just fine.
Curious how it plays out then - rules suggested we all place bids simultaneously, and then resolve the bids on each of three taverns in turn order - so that’s 4 actions per player per round. At 6 rounds, that’s 24 actions each. I admit I haven’t played it so very possible I’m omitting some steps.
You choose a dwarf from each tavern in bid order. There’s not a lot, its a very quick turn, but if we get a bad turn order for time zones it can take a good while between actions.
Strategy… this is where I’m learning the games diverge, like Caverna and Agricola that share so many mechanisms but have a completely different objective.
TM has much simpler race powers and very little (comparatively) combo potential for extending your round. So the focus is more on long term strategy and map brinksmanship, rather than tactical insights, race exploitation, and incremental opportunity.
I was raised on Gaia Project, so I know the rules here but play relatively poorly!
I always leave it too long between games, so forget, for example, which scoring and bonus tiles are not in the game, which is supposed to have some bearing on faction selection and not easily determined from the BGA interface. Free faction selection is hard: I think I prefer being dealt colours, so you get to pick from 4 options.
If we’re talking Yucata, there’s a bunch over that that I’ve been wanting to try but not buy…

And of course Carson City would be a treat to play with a full table, which I’ve never done.
