Fury of Dracula PBF - Game 1

What did you forget to take into a Count?

Okay, very short pause.

Lord Godalming, upon drawing his event card, plays it for its immediate effect.

Newspaper Reports

Immediately: Reveal the location card on the third space of the trail.
Dusk or Dawn: Reveal the location card on either the fifth or sixth space of the trail.

I neglected to give Whistle_Pig the chance to play the card immediately, and that is my fault for not re-reading all of these event cards when I hand them out so I can see if the hunter (or Dracula) wants to play for the immediate effects on them. I will do so going forward.

The third space of the trail is revealed to be Valona!

I apologize if this new information would have changed the actions of Dr. Seward and Van Helsing. As I have not yet processed her move, Mina (@RogerBW) may change her action if she would like.

Also, Lord Godalming discards Knife and Heavenly Host to get his hand size down to three.

Updated board:

The fiend!

No though, Dr Seward would still have drawn a ticket.

Closest I could get!

Mina will stick with that Supply.

Okay, Mina Supplies. Being a small city, you only draw an Event card…which is a Dracula card! Is poor Mina still under the vile Count’s influence?

Dracula’s (@RossM) turn.

Turn Submitted.

Dracula moves and then plays his event card - Darkness Returns.

Play at the end of the Dracula phase.
There is no day during the next hunter phase.
Then, remove all Dracula event cards from the discard pile, and shuffle them into the event deck.

After the shuffle, the top card of the deck is Dracula’s.

So we skip Week 1, Friday - Day entirely and go to:

Dusk
Week 1, Friday - Night

If there are no event cards at Dusk, play continues with Lord Godalming’s (@Whistle_Pig) night actions.

Take a train ticket :steam_locomotive:

Hmmm! Decisions, decisions. Dr Seward is going to Rest tonight - effectively pass. I don’t want to risk handing Dracula another event card so soon, wouldn’t get an item where I am, and am happy with my two train tickets. Plus I need the time to strategize…

My dear Mina (@RogerBW) - a question, to be answered after Dracula has submitted his next move. Do you still wish to continue with our planned rendezvous? I’m trying to think through the Count’s moves since Valona, namely whether he is still loitering around Eastern Europe and we would be worth continuing with those plans, or whether he has just or is about to skip north of me into Germany, possibly putting him in Budapest or Vienna after tonight? Thoughts, anyone?

Well, we haven’t heard the screams from him going to sea. I think that if we abandon the plan he can simply stay where he is anyway…

Lord Godalming takes tickets.

Dr. Seward rests.

Van Helsing (@MichaelCule) to go for a night action.

I will rest. (Yes it does feel frustrating.)

I have enough train tickets to make either Northern Germany or the Balkans in three moves: I have to reach Marseilles first and then I’ll decide which way to go. I’m coming, you young brave persons!

And no Roger, I believe the bane of Dracula’s life is that he can’t stay put, he must move on and he can’t normally return to places that are currently in his line of previous stops waiting to mature.

After Dracula’s move tonight, shall we have a little chat to coordinate moves for this upcoming round, and work out where he might be? He has encounter cards that are about to mature as well so we need to work out where they may be and when/if we can get to them.

Van Helsing rests to prepare for a hectic journey.

Mina (@RogerBW) is next.

Interesting, more connection to Whitehall Mystery / Letters from Whitechapel than I had supposed…

Mina rests.

Mina rests as well.

It is now Dracula’s (@RossM) turn to move.

Out of curiosity, what makes you say this?

Indeed - and Scotland Yard too that I was playing as a child in the mid 1980s.

Specifically the ā€œmust move, cannot backtrackā€ (though in WM you can revisit a location, just not on the same turn when you left it).

I’ve moved!
