Fury of Dracula PBF - Game 1

I see no need to make this easy for investigators.

No ambush.

(I’m now picturing FoD Social Deduction Variant, where Mina has to choose her side at the start of the game…)

(That would be amazing.)

Okay, then we move on to Dusk

And if there are no events to play, we go to Week 1, Sun - Night

Lord Godalming’s (@Whistle_Pig) turn.

So Mina has to encounter the space, or whatever it is called, to find/face the encounter card in Valona, yes?

I believe that’s a Search action. (I do dislike the “Learn to play” / “Reference” style of rulebook.)

That’s it - couldnt remember the name of the action.

While we wait for Godalming (@Whistle_Pig) , Dr Seward will rest this evening - and plan for his busy morning.

Draw a train ticket please

Lord Godalming takes tickets.

Dr. Seward rests.

Van Helsing’s (@MichaelCule) turn.

I will discard the 1/1 ticket I obtained last time (I ask you!) and draw another. I shall then pray for Mrs Harker’s good health and fortune.

Van Helsing also takes a ticket.

Mina (@RogerBW) is up.

Let’s try it: Mina searches in what will one day be Vlorë but for now is Valona.

The search reveals a Reckless Vampire!

We will now be entering a Night Combat.

Quick rundown:

Dracula has a small deck of combat cards, with two copies of each card. These can be viewed in the PDF file I linked to above Fury of Dracula PBF - Game 1 - #38 by COMaestro

Combat with Dracula occurs at Dawn (Day) or Dusk (Night), but combat with other vampires happens immediately during the Ambush/Search.

Dracula draws 5 cards from his combat deck. The hunter gets three cards (Punch, Dodge, Escape) in addition to their item cards (also listed in the card reference).

Both the Hunter and Dracula secretly choose one of their cards and PM me. Once I have both PM’s, I will “reveal” the cards in the main thread. If the Hunter plays a card that cancels Dracula’s card, Dracula’s card effect does not happen. Otherwise, Dracula’s effect happens. And in either case, the Hunter’s effect happens.

The played cards will stay on the table, then another round of combat occurs. After this round, while Dracula’s cards stay on the table, the Hunter will take back their card from the previous round, while the card they used in the current round stays on the table. Thus, the hunter is forced to use different cards each round, but may re-use previously played cards every other round.

After six rounds of combat, if neither party has been defeated, the combat ends. Any damage dealt to the hunter or a vampire remains. Vampires cannot move from their location, even if they use the Escape as Bat card. They will remain in their current city. Dracula, however, would move to an adjacent city when Escaping as a bat.

For vampires, Escape cards will have no effect until 3 combat cards are already on the table (so, the fourth round of combat). For Dracula, it is based on his Pride ability, which is dependent upon the number of Despair tokens on the board (currently 0, soon to be 1), so he needs to have already played a number of combat cards greater than the number of Despair tokens before he can Escape.

So Mina now has Punch, Dodge, and Escape in hand. Unfortunately, Dracula knows that her one item is Fast Horses, which have no combat ability.

The Reckless Vampire has 4 health, and no other special abilities or effects as this is not an Ambush combat.

I will give Dracula his hand of cards in a moment. Let me know if there are any questions. Otherwise, let the combat begin!

Punch Dodge Escape Knife(W) Pistol(W) Rifle(W) Crucifix Garlic Heavenly Host Holy Circle
Claws X X X X
Escape as Bat X X X
Escape as Mist X X
Fangs X X X X X
Mesmerise X X X X
Plotting X X X X
Strength X X X X

Oh, here’s a chart for what hunter cards can be used to cancel Dracula’s cards. An ‘X’ means it cancels it.

Go on, Mina! 'Ave it!

Combat in Valona - Round 1
