BGG boardgame quiz

hiya

Has anyone seen this quiz from BGG on YouTube?

what did you score?

I scored a paltry 57

if you post a score by this time next week (19 Oct 2025) I’ll give the person with the best score a small prize (I accidentally ordered two copies of something).

As a tie breaker along with your quiz score post what will be my first score in the new Feld game: druids of edora (this may be a slight delaying factor in me sending any prize).

I got 12 out of 20. I panicked on the “what do these games have in common?” question and wrote “beans” :). Among my other failures I tried “Modern Art” (there are so many editions) for “The Gallerist”, and I misremembered “Marvel Champions” as “Marvel United” (which does turn out to be a game, at least); and I recognised both “Nemesis” and “Five Tribes” but just didn’t manage to come up with those names in time.

What do you think you would have scored with the publisher/designer aspects of the question?

Well 12*3 is 36, plus about 4 points for designers. I doubt I could have said who any of the publishers were. So call it 40. Your 57 seems really good to me, seeing as how a perfect score for the primary questions nets you 60.

I surprised myself with 77.

This is a ton of useless knowledge. It was interesting that how often I knew the game and either the designer or publisher but not both.

I got one 0 point game which it was for a reprint of a famous game that has only been out a short while with that cover. As I’m less engaged these days I had never seen the new cover before. The original one might be too iconic for a quiz though.

Total 48. I’m giving myself 1 point for “Kanban”, since I knew it was Vital Lacerda but didn’t know that it was the EV version since I’ve never seen any of the covers. Only one publisher; I don’t really pay much attention to that.

The publisher is where I also got stuck and many of the designers.

Oh gosh, what is wrong with me?

I know every single cover. 12 publishers and 10 designers. I think I’m in too deep.

Maybe an 81, I gave myself a point for Northstar on Quacks as they are the publisher of my copy. The new edition is with a new house, apparently.

I’m guessing the one I blurred is the same one that tripped up @EnterTheWyvern

Currently winning!

Winning and wondering why on earth I know that Rio Grande publishes Power Grid, a game I’ve never played.

I thought it was 2F !

13 covers + 7 designers + 4 publishers = 50 points.

I found it more difficult as it went on, but I’m not sure whether that’s coincidence or intentional on the part of the quiz maker.

I would go easy with the publisher. Power Grid would be 2F Spiele if you’re in Germany. And I always thought of Azul to be Plan B’s as that’s what I know when it first came out.

I scored 85 with that. But would go down to 82 if we follow the restricted anwers.

EDIT: I don’t need a game lol. I need fewer games.

I’m afraid not. That cover was sufficiently ugly and controversial that it crossed my radar.

It was the new El Grande. Realised I had not seen that cover, no idea the publisher and even from the old one I had no idea who the designer was. I would have got 3 points from the classic frowning euro man

73 for me. The ones I had no idea about were Clans of Caledonia and the Marvel one. I was mostly missing designers rather than publishers, weirdly

Publishers can be an odd duck, where there is both a publisher and a distributor, or the publisher might be stamped differently by country.

Finally got through this. Got 71. Missed number 16 entirely, not sure I’ve ever seen the cover to that one. Just barely remembered the title to 13 and 15 before the timer. Got 11 designer names and 3 publishers.

I didn’t do that, but I did guess Northstar as well, but since the versions were different I chose not to award a point.

I’m now looking at my shelves. When I look at Irish Gauge and Iberian Gauge, the red and white CG pops into my head (not on the side of the box). Other boxes, I see the Rio Grande sun without checking or the Mayfair shield. It reminds me of the conversation we had on aphantasia.

Mission Red Planet baffled me, turns out it’s Fantasy Flight.

Ravensburger and Stronghold games consistently eluded me (El Dorado, Dark Moon, Survive). I missed New Frontiers as well even though I should know that one DARN WELL after checking the manufacturer’s website so frequently for the Starry Rift release.

Interesting how some publisher logos are part of the cover image for me and others are not.

(none of these are from the quiz, just my shelves).

The infuriating box dimensions are a dead giveaway
